Noelle stared at Laura. There was no mistaking it. Laura was clearly trying to test her knowledge of the car accident. So the Merlocks had indeed started to suspect something.

But since Ruth was still with her, Noelle had no intention of revealing her hand to them.

She scoffed. "What do you mean I had a conflict with your sister at the start of the semester? Do you have any idea what kind of person your sister is?"

Laura tried to remain composed. "Ms. Liddell, that's not what I meant."

"Then what did you mean? Your sister accuses me of kidnapping your mother, and then you come asking if I have a grudge against your family?"

Noelle snorted. "Of course, I've always had a problem with the Merlock family. That's not even a secret. Even the blind could see it."

Laura tried to smooth things over. "Yes, my sister acted recklessly earlier."

Noelle sneered. "I'm glad you realized. But the fact that you rushed over here like this means you still haven't found your mother, right? Seems like your precious family did quite a few dirty deeds to deserve this."

Laura's face fell. Still, she tried to maintain her composure. "Ms. Liddell, we're just anxious. I'm sure you can understand how desperate the children can get in times like this."

"Oh, I understand completely. After all, I also hate the person who killed my parents. I want nothing more than to give them a fate worse than death." Her voice was chilling.

Laura stiffened. "Ms. Liddell, I heard your parents died in a car accident years ago."

"That's right. But it wasn't an accident." Noelle stepped forward, staring straight at Laura, catching a flicker of avoidance in her eyes. So Laura did know; her expression gave it away.

Laura probed, "Are you saying someone was behind it?"

So, had Noelle found out? But how much did she actually know?

Laura had only recently learned that Cedric's car crash was orchestrated by her own mother. It was to cover things up and drag the Greene family into the mess. As long as the Greenes were involved, the Merlocks would be safe.

Noelle smirked. "Yes. A car ran a red light and killed my parents. Do you think that's an accident?"

"I see." Laura sighed in relief. That meant Noelle didn't know the whole truth, right?

Of course, Cedric knew. But he had kept it from Noelle. So, did Ruth's disappearance have nothing to do with Noelle?
