They dig through the phone, deleting everything. Then Liam muttered, “check the recycle bin.” Smart.
They did and deleted everything from there too. It was all gone.
“It’s done. You can finally get rid of Kye,” Liam said. Yeah right.
“What if he made copies?” Ava asked softly, still sounding worried.
“Yeah, you’re right,” he affirmed. “Let’s check his laptop.”
Footsteps moved across the room and the sound of my laptop powering on filled the silence. “It’s password protected,” Liam groaned and Ava sighed.
Then Liam laughed. “This is weird.”
“What is?
“Your name. It’s his password,” he replied, sounding amused. “I didn’t expect that someone like Kye would use your name as his password.”
My heart twisted in my chest. What does that even mean?
They opened it, went through the laptop and eventually found a folder that was labeled with her name. It was stupid of me, maybe. Or maybe I wanted her to see. To know that she mattered enough to take up space even in my corrupted, vicious world.
They deleted everything again, then went to the trash and emptied it.
Then Liam spoke up again, repeating his words from earlier, “That's it. It’s all done.”
I really hope we can work our relationship out, Ava. I had started to like her as a person and I didn’t entirely blame her even though I wasn’t pleased with what she did. For her to even think that she could drug me, it meant that she was really fed up with pit relationship dynamics. It’s a good thing that I didn’t swallow the water and only pretended to.
They stood there for a second and I could feel the joy practically radiating off them. Then Laim spoke up, his voice different.
“Are you coming?”
“I… I can’t just leave him like this,” she whispered.
“What?”
“He could choke or—“
“He blackmailed you, Ava. He ruined your life. Now is not the time to start acting like you care about him. So you think he would show you mercy if the takes were turned? He has already hurt you enough, don’t you want to get away from him?”
There was silence and nothing could be heard aside from Liam’s heavy breathing. And I didn’t need to look to know that she was standing still, torn between doing what was right and staying back with me.
Truth be told, he was right. All the things I did to her beaded on the fact that I wanted to take revenge wasn’t nice. Now, I was trying to think of how I could take my revenge in a way that wouldn’t hurt her. I care about her too much. But I was still more mad at her than I was at Liam.
