Damon:
I should’ve known she wouldn’t let it go quietly.
I should have known that she was not going to let the subject die down. She was going to come and she was going to start the problem.
The second I stepped back into my office, I didn’t even have time to close the door before Lysandra shoved it open behind me, her heels clacking across the hardwood with all the fury of a storm. The woman was not the type to stand on the back when it came to work. She did not really care about being in the office. And yet here she was, still after the meeting was over, waiting.
“What the hell was that, Damon?” she snapped, slamming the door shut behind her. “How the hell could you do something like this, Damon of all people? How could you choose her?”
I didn’t look at her. I didn’t need to.
I calmly walked to my desk, straightened a few files, and took a deep breath before finally raising my eyes to meet hers.
“You’re going to need to be more specific.” I said casually.
“You gave her your shares? Her?” she spat the word like venom. “You humiliated me in front of the entire board! What do you think they’re going to say? The woman that was his girlfriend for a long period of time, his partner and he did not even think about giving a share to her versus an Omega, someone that they don’t even know. You put her against me, you gave her what was supposed to be mine, and then you are choosing to tell me that you didn’t do anything, that you want me to be specific. You know exactly what I’m going to talk about and you know exactly what I was referring to.”
“You humiliated yourself, Lysandra,” I replied coolly. “No one told you to run your mouth. You did that all on your own. I did not do anything to humiliate you. All I did was state that she owns my shares with me, the two of us are partners, she is my daughter’s mother and she is going to be treated that way. Whether or not you choose to accept it depends on you.”
Her eyes blazed. “I’ve stood by you for years. I’ve defended you. I’ve cleaned up your damn messes. And you choose an Omega over me?”
“I didn’t choose anyone,” I said flatly. “I made a business decision. And it has nothing to do with you. You are a partner, not my woman. Not anymore. You made your choices, just like I made mine. And I think that I have every right to do so, just like you have every right to move on with your life. Just stand the way that you want to stand.”
She scoffed, taking a step closer. “You gave her forty-two percent, Damon. That’s not just a business decision. That’s practically giving her half your empire. You know what kind of message that sends? You are sharing your own shares. You put both your names. Rather than carrying your name on your own, you are putting both names by one another side. If I am going to consult you about something, she has to be there too. For God’s sake, what are you doing?”
“I do,” I said, stepping around the desk toward her. “It sends the message that I trust her more than I’ll ever trust you. That you and your father don’t hold the leash you think you do.”
Lysandra’s jaw tightened. Her voice lowered, sharp as glass. “You’re letting your dick make decisions for you now? You being attracted to her is what is making your decisions right now? Seriously? I would have never taken you for a man who would stand by whatever his cock thought about.”
I stopped walking and turned to her fully.
I stared at the empty doorway for a long moment before running a hand through my hair and letting out a slow breath.
War?
She had no idea what war looked like.
But if it came down to it, between protecting Sienna, Isla, and everything we were building, I’d burn the whole world down before I let Lysandra or Giovanni take a single step closer.
And this time, I wasn’t just playing defense.
I was going to strike first.
