The next day —
Arwen woke up as usual. Her face looked fresh and relaxed, as if she had completed her beauty sleep just right.
As she exited her practice room, she saw Selene standing right outside.
For a second, remembering what happened last night made Arwen’s fingers clench, but just the next second, a cool smile curled the corners of her lips.
She slowly approached and greeted, "Good morning, Ms. Martin. I didn’t know that you would be such an early riser. Did you not sleep properly last night?"
Selene gave a weak smile before shaking her head. "I slept well. It’s just that I couldn’t sleep at peace. I was worried."
"Worried?" Arwen repeated, pretending not to understand what Selene was trying to say.
However, Selene seemed to be quite patient. Nodding, she hummed. "Yes, worried," she accepted. "Even though I told you all yesterday, you haven’t yet told me your answer. I am worried that you won’t agree to it, and I might lose my chance again."
"You will lose your chance again?" Arwen chuckled without caring that she would embarrass Selene. "Heh, sorry, Ms. Martin. But when exactly did you have a chance to begin with?"
Selene’s brows furrowed, for a second, looking all surprised as if out of all, she hadn’t expected Arwen to react like this. "What do you mean, Arwen?"
Arwen casually shrugged. "I didn’t mean anything more than what I said, Ms. Martin." She was still sweating from her practice, so using the towel in her hand, she dabbed over the side of her neck before responding. "You never had a chance to begin with, so losing one is simply invalid. Isn’t it?"
The frown only deepened between her brows. "You don’t believe me?"
And with her frown, Arwen’s smile deepened. Shaking her head, she said, "There is nothing to believe, Ms. Martin, because the fact is —Aiden is my husband, and I am very selfish when it comes to him. I won’t share. I won’t return. And I definitely won’t give him away." She took a step ahead and closed the little distance they had between them.
Her domineering step like that made Selene take a step back, but right behind her was the railing, which cut off her escape route.
"You know why?" Arwen leaned in more, going right next to her ear to tell. "Because he is not an object you could take." Then, leaning back, she stared right into her eyes, her expression tight and gaze resolute. "He is an individual —my husband, in particular. So ... cleanse your thoughts, or else ..."
She didn’t complete her words, but the sharpness in her gaze did.
Selene was taken aback. She hadn’t expected Arwen to be this cool after all she had told her last night. And hence, she hadn’t prepared herself to face her like this.
Arwen looked at her for a moment before finally stepping back. "It’s still early. Since you are already awake, suit yourself as per your preference." The same smile from earlier curled her lips —one that clearly subdued everything. "When the breakfast is ready, Mr. Jones will let you know and completing which you could leave."
And with that, she turned to walk away.
However, behind her, Selene lost her calm. Seeing her leaving, she reminded from behind. "Arwen, he had always loved me. Silently. I have been with him even when I wasn’t around. You won’t be able to keep him just by being selfish."
"And this is something I would prove to you. I will prove to you that he has never and will never be able to forget me." She challenged. "Do you accept this bet?"
Meanwhile, after completing her practice, Arwen returned to her room. Her gaze went to look at the bed but not finding Aiden there, her brows knitted slightly. fr\eewebno vel .c(o)m
"You are done —" she asked, looking up in his direction only to pause at his sight. She hadn’t prepared herself to see him like this.
This was too ... too sinful.
She couldn’t look away. Her throat bobbed as her gaze lingered on the drop of water that ticked down from a strand of his hair, rolling down his bare chest, going down his perfectly ridged abdomen before disappearing into the towel that hung dangerously low at on his hips.
"This ..." she swallowed down the lump of temptation she felt in her throat.
"Did you like it?" he asked, and she looked up at him, almost nodding.
But then held back, shaking up her consciousness. "What’s there to like? This is not my first time seeing you like this." She coughed, clearing her voice that felt strangely hoarse.
He stared at her before walking towards her. She shifted in her seat, only to find him, closing the distance between them.
"Is it?" he asked hooking his finger down her chin and raising her face to lock their eyes. "But you still look like you are getting tempted like the first time."
Arwen looked at him, shaking her head. "I–I am not."
"Really?" he smirked, seeing her nod in response. "Then prove it."
