Thinking back to that quick, almost tentative kiss—and the way she’d panicked afterward—Dominic felt a wave of irritation rise up inside him. His expression turned cold as he pulled his gaze away, set his phone aside, and strode out of the bedroom without another word.

The next morning.

When Cynthia woke, the first thing she noticed was that she wasn’t in her own room.

Her face drained of color. She immediately threw back the covers to check herself.

She realized her clothes had been changed. For a split second, her mind went completely blank.

Last night, she remembered, Vicky had insisted on bringing her to the guest room to rest, but Cynthia had refused and made sure Dominic would take her home instead.

So… what the hell happened?

A nervous chill crept over her. She swallowed hard, lifting the covers more carefully this time, and slid out of bed on tiptoe.

First, she peered into the waste bin—nothing but a clean liner, not even a stray tissue or anything suspicious. Her body felt fine, too—no aches, no odd sensations, no evidence of anything out of line. Relief washed over her.

So she hadn’t done anything reckless while drunk.

Dominic hadn’t taken her back to the Tremaines, that much was clear, but he must’ve found somewhere safe for her to sleep it off.

She really had nothing to be anxious about.

Cynthia pressed a hand to her chest, letting out the breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding.

The bedroom door was slightly ajar. She tiptoed over and gently nudged it open, poking her head out to survey the scene.

Dominic was sitting on the sofa, talking on the phone. When he saw her, he stubbed out his cigarette and hurriedly ended the call.

“Awake?”

Cynthia nodded. “Yeah.”

Dominic stood, his tone cool as ever. “Come eat breakfast.”

“I haven’t brushed my teeth yet,” Cynthia mumbled.
