Victor watched Selene's retreating figure, his eyes narrowing.

"Harrison is angry with Felicity right now because Selene's divorce humiliated the Vaughn family. But he still has feelings for her. And now that she's carrying his child, he'll have to marry her."

"But will the Vaughn family really allow two sisters from the Thompson family to marry in?" Matilda fretted.

Victor felt a bitter taste in his mouth. "That ungrateful brat!" he spat, knowing Matilda understood he meant Selene.

"If only we could have stopped the divorce," Matilda lamented. "If only we'd realized sooner that Harrison didn't love Selene. We could have arranged for Flick to be his mistress on the side."

A heavy frown settled on Victor's face. "We were deceived by Selene all along." He had always thought her a pliable woman, lucky to have married into the Vaughn family at all. He never imagined his daughter had such a spine, to walk away from Harrison so decisively. Now, getting back into the Vaughns' good graces would be difficult.

He took Matilda's hand. "We don't need to worry about what the Vaughns think. They're the ones who will look foolish, not us. No matter what, the Thompson Group cannot lose the backing of Vaughn Enterprises. I will get Felicity into that family, one way or another."

On the apartment balcony, Luke stared out at the road below.

"They're gone," the man said in a deep voice. "So many annoying flies buzzing around lately. It's irritating."

First Harrison, and now Victor and Matilda.

Selene came out with a pot of tea. The fragrant steam reached Luke, and he immediately turned and took the pot from her hands. "Let me. It's hot."
