"Our scout's been hiding near the edge of the Entertainment Area," Kelsey said as she pulled out a small slip of paper and handed it to Matthew. "Here's his address, Mr. Larden. You can find him yourself. Just let him know you've already spoken to me," she added.

"Got it," Matthew replied with a nod. "I might be gone for a while this time. Are you going to be okay here?"

He wasn't asking about her safety in general—he meant the Hollow Fangs. If all went according to plan, he'd head to the Medusa Gang's base, gather intel, and quite possibly strike right then and there. But the deadline the Hollow Fangs had given her? That was the next day. Just one day left.

Kelsey smiled and shook her head. "No need to worry, Mr. Larden. If they get impatient, the story will just be that the Hollow Fangs provoked a newly arrived merchant named Matteo Larden—tried to take his girl, no less. Matteo flew into a rage, stormed their base alone, and wiped out the entire gang. How about that?"

She gave him a cheeky look, quirking a brow with playful flair.

Matthew's expression darkened immediately. "You could've said I took a contract job. That'd be less ridiculous than going on a rampage for some woman."

"Oh dear, Mr. Larden, do you really hate me that much?" Kelsey pouted dramatically, laying it on thick with a wounded expression.

Matthew didn't bother answering. He turned and started walking out the door.

He needed to find that scout and get a firsthand look at what was going on. But as he walked out, he tossed a line over his shoulder. "Come up with a better excuse, or I swear I'll lose it."

Kelsey watched his retreating figure with a grin tugging at her lips. Well, he's not as cold as he acts, it seems.

He moved quickly, cutting down the street as he made his way toward the location on the paper. He was eager to find out exactly what this scout had seen. As for Morton…

According to her, he wouldn't be coming out until the next morning. If Matthew didn't return by then, she'd simply tell Morton he had left earlier.

He glanced at the paper again. The address was just to the east—not too far from where he was now.
