Lucy stared fearfully at the two police officers. “What are you doing?”

They didn’t answer. Instead, they escorted her out of the police station. Standing at the entrance, she saw Vivian leaning casually against a car door.

“Get in,” Vivian said coolly.

Once inside the car, it finally hit Lucy—she had been released!

She looked at Vivian in disbelief. “Miss Wilson, you really got me out. But I still want to know—how did you do it?”

After the incident at the stables, Zachary and Melvin had worked together to put pressure on the Chancer family. That was why James had refused to help her.

It must have taken a lot to get her released under Zachary and Melvin’s watchful eyes.

Vivian let out a soft laugh, her eyes filled with mockery. “It was simple—I just found a scapegoat.”

The smile on Vivian’s face sent a chill down Lucy’s spine, making her shudder involuntarily.

“You truly are remarkable, Miss Wilson,” Lucy said awkwardly, forcing a compliment.

“Don’t celebrate too soon,” Vivian replied, her tone sharp. “The price of getting you out wasn’t cheap.”

“I understand, Miss Vivian. Whatever it takes to deal with Sarah, I’ll do it,” Lucy said, her determination evident.

News of Lucy’s release quickly reached Sarah. At the time, she was helping Melvin water the flowers in the garden.

“James is really resourceful,” Melvin said with a chuckle.

Sarah, sprinkling water onto a flower, smiled. “It wasn’t James this time.”

In the past, James had done everything he could to handle Lucy’s problems, but this time, he wasn’t involved.

“Vivian?” Melvin guessed casually.

Sarah nodded. “After what happened at the stables, someone was guiding Lucy from behind the scenes. The only person who could save herself while also getting Lucy out is Vivian.”

Charlotte froze, her heart skipping a beat. That voice—wasn’t it Lucy? But hadn’t she been arrested?

Just yesterday, Mrs. Chancer had begged James to rescue Lucy. How could she already be out?

Hurrying to open the door, Charlotte’s shock deepened when she saw Lucy standing there. She hadn’t imagined it.

“Lucy? You’re out?” Charlotte asked, her disbelief evident.

Lucy immediately noticed the faint gloom in Charlotte’s expression. Without needing to ask, she could guess that another argument with James was the cause.

“Charlotte, I won’t let Sarah get away with this. James is always fighting with you because of her. You must hate her as much as I do, right?”

A twisted sense of satisfaction flashed in Lucy’s eyes as she clenched her fists tightly, as if imagining she were wringing Sarah’s neck.

Charlotte’s eyes dimmed, her voice filled with helplessness. “Lucy, she has too many people protecting her. It’s almost impossible to get to her. Besides, your brother always assumes I’m trying to hurt her.”

Her voice faltered, and tears welled up in her eyes as she continued, “She’s like a thorn stuck in my side. The longer it stays, the deeper it burrows. But even if pulling it out means tearing flesh and breaking bone, I want her gone. I want her dead.”
