Tracy knew that there was no point in losing her temper with the brainless lycan. She was the one at fault for trusting in his authority and capability to follow simple instructions. Of course, it couldn’t be blamed on him alone, but who would have expected that the lycan heir would make a mistake such as following the directions given to him by an old app?
Even when it was not his fault, Tracy wanted to kick him in the face.
She walked through the gates of the prison. Usually, she would never intervene with the shifters and their course of actions, but curse her for owing it to Inez’s father. She owed this much to that motherfucker, even if he was one tricky thing to deal with. The doors banged against the wall, making the two security guards behind the reception of the prison jump to their feet. They eyed her carefully, but Tracy didn’t even bat an eye in their direction.
She should have done a better job. Maybe left a bunch of aegis around her, ones that would have gone awry the second someone approached Inez with a bad intention. They were complicated to make, but they had simpler tasks. A single mistake, and whoever approached Inez with harmful intent would explode in countless pieces of flesh, blood and bones. Aegis were the magical equivalent of human landmines. One wrong step and then—boom!
They were not very subtle, but who the heck likes subtle?
"Who are you and why are you barging in like this?" The man at the reception slowly got to his feet. He was eyeing her warily as if he knew something was about to go down, and he was correct about that. Something was about to go down. This very building.
If the king of the seas found out that she allowed his daughter to be trapped in the prison, that man would lose his shit. He had some soft spots for Inez as she was his first daughter. Of course, if he could get out of wherever he was at the moment.
Tracy cut him off with just one look. "Inez Sinclair and her sister— I think she is called Barlet or something? Where are the two of them? Don’t even think about telling me that they were taken to the execution grounds, or else I will kill you all. Slowly at that."
The security officers were looking at Tracy as if they had run into their biggest trouble of the day. Of course, they were not truly happy for the big adventure because they didn’t get paid enough for this shit. Their hands shifted towards their batons, and they squared their shoulders. The whole time they continued to look at her, but at the same time they pretended that they were not looking at her. There was this —we are not looking at you, even if we are holding the electric batons in our hands—thing going on, but Tracy didn’t have the time to waste with these shifters. She was just that worried about Inez.
Realising that there was no point in questioning the receptionist of the prison, she spun on her heels and then headed right towards the dungeons. A quick glance at the security guards who were now simply dumbstruck by her actions. Most probably, they couldn’t believe their eyes that there was someone as bold as Tracy, who would dare to walk right past them as if they never existed. Like their authority didn’t matter, and it didn’t honestly.
Their bodies continued to struggle behind her. They were trying to do the impossible; unless she freed them herself, these men were never getting a chance to get back on their feet. And as the kindhearted witch, as she was, Tracy had made sure that they would be able to break free of the restraints in like fifteen or twenty minutes. No more than that.
Maybe they would be a bit terrified with some post-traumatic syndrome but fine nonetheless.
Behind her, someone screamed. Mildly —no, greatly terrified due to the sight in front of them. And three seconds later, Tracy found herself surrounded by a bunch of guards.
Oh for the love of the gods.
