The old man’s eyes brimmed with shock. He’d never imagined his own son would turn on him—just for the sake of an inheritance.

Everything he’d worked for his whole life, all those years building a legacy, was meant to give her and Easton Lynch some measure of security. He never thought Marcus would be so desperate, so reckless.

Click—the door to the hospital room swung open. Police officers rushed in, tackling Marcus Lynch to the ground.

Marcus stared up at them in disbelief. “How… how is this possible?”

He’d only just entered the room; how could the police have arrived so quickly?

“We received a report. You’re under suspicion for attempted murder. You need to come with us.”

From the hallway, Tyrone Lynch and Alicia Shelton stepped into the room.

The old man was still struggling, trying to speak, but every word cost him tremendous effort.

Tyrone knew exactly what he wanted to say. Even now, after his own son had tried to kill him, the old man was only worried about whether Marcus would end up in prison.

Tyrone walked calmly to his grandfather’s side and gently fixed the oxygen mask over his face.

“Tyrone! You set me up! You did this to me!” Marcus’s voice was shaking now. He must have figured it out—this was Tyrone’s trap from the very beginning.

“I’m Easton’s father. I’m the father of Lynch Corporation’s future CEO! He’ll get me a lawyer. He’ll find a lawyer for me!” Marcus kept struggling as the officers dragged him away.

At the mention of his mother, the old man’s body convulsed with fresh anguish.

“You played your part in driving people mad.” Tyrone braced himself against the bed, his gaze burning with hatred. “You raised me. That’s your debt to me, not the other way around. If Lynch Corporation is what it is today, it owes me, too. All I ever wanted was a real family. But you—over and over—you tried to hurt my wife and our unborn child, all for Easton, all for a murderer like Marcus.”

The old man’s gaze dimmed, realization and defeat settling over his features. He knew Tyrone was settling old scores now, with interest.

With a tired resignation, the old man closed his eyes and sighed.

“You made one mistake. You wasted all your energy scheming to pit Marcus and Easton against me… when you should have sent them as far away from me as possible, made sure they never showed their faces again. Because once you’re gone, no matter how high they climb, I’ll make sure they lose everything.”
