Mina was so stunned she couldn't get a single word out for a long moment. Wife? Did she hear that right?

Had Tyrone lost his mind? Was he really planning to marry an orphan?

Jade was clearly taken aback too, but since she'd already heard whispers from Melanie, she wasn't quite as shocked.

"I don't object," Jade said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper, "but…I just don't think she's good enough for you." She hesitated, glancing sideways. "Besides, our families have an engagement. Even if…"

Her words trailed off, faltering. The engagement wasn't even hers to claim.

"My wife is exceptional," Tyrone replied, his gaze settling on Alicia.

And he truly meant it. Alicia's academic record and her talent for design had both made a deep impression on him.

There weren't many women who could genuinely earn Tyrone's admiration.

Vincent had been with Alicia for four years, but all he ever saw in her was a pretty face, a slender figure, someone who was obedient and agreeable. He never bothered to notice her brilliance.

Alicia had been top of her class, the highest scorer in the whole county orphanage on her college entrance exams. Her excellence was real, undeniable.

Alicia stared blankly at Tyrone, her heart swelling with an unfamiliar warmth. So this is what it feels like to be recognized, she thought. She couldn't help but stand a little taller, her chin lifting instinctively.

"Mr. Lynch…" Mina began, unwilling to let it go, but Jade caught her wrist, cutting her off.

Mina might not know Tyrone well, but Jade did. Tyrone was not someone you wanted to cross.

Tyrone cast Mina a cold glance, then took Alicia's hand and led her away.

"How could Tyrone fall for Alicia? I mean, why would he marry her?" Mina blurted out, frustration bubbling over. She simply couldn't accept that an orphan—a girl she'd always looked down on—might suddenly be her equal.

That was the only reason Jade and her father had been able to return to the White family's estate and claim their share.

As long as Nicole remained missing, the inheritance would stay with Jade and her father. But if Nicole were ever found, they wouldn't see a single penny or share.

Jade's lips curled into a smirk. "Don't worry. The real Nicole will never come back. But if necessary…we can always produce a Nicole who serves our interests."

Mina finally let out a breath, relief softening her features.

As long as Jade secured her position as Ms. White, Mina would have plenty to gain as well.

"Anything you like, you can take home."
