But Cedric scoffed, “Are you clueless? Don’t you get it yet? That kid is a real goldmine! A measly billion dollars is nothing—Dylan is the richest man in Wye. We should be asking for way more. This is our ticket to real wealth!”
His eyes gleamed with excitement and greed.
Borg was stunned for a moment, but then his face twisted into a matching look of avarice. “You’re right, we can definitely squeeze more out of this. Who’d have thought these brats would end up being our lucky break?”
He could hardly believe their incredible luck. It felt unreal that fortune like this had landed in their laps.
All they had to do was let Dylan know they were N, and that money would be as good as theirs.
“But we have to be careful,” Borg cautioned. “If Dylan figures out we’re not the real N, we’re dead.”
“Relax, there’s no way he’ll find out,” Cedric said, brimming with confidence. His gaze slid calculatingly to Noah. “You—hurry up. That tech you mentioned earlier, hand it over. Do that, and maybe I’ll let you live. Otherwise…”
Noah’s eyes stayed cool. “Otherwise what?”
Cedric sneered, “You dumb kid, you’re already in my hands. I can do whatever I want with you. If you’re looking for someone to blame, blame yourself. If your phone hadn’t gone off at the wrong time and if I hadn’t put two and two together about who you are, I’d never have known you were worth so much.”
Borg joined in, his tone threatening. “Yeah, you’d better just cough up that chip technology, or things are going to get ugly for you!”
Noah shook his head, then said calmly, “Why would I carry something that valuable on me? The SOAI tech is locked in my safe at home, and only I can get to it. If you want it, you’ll have to let me go.”
