“Crystal, we’ve already given you so many chances. You were the one who threw them away. No matter how reckless or selfish you were before, we always forgave you. But this time—you tried to hurt the children. I can’t forgive that.”

Samuel’s voice was cold and final. He left Crystal no room for pleading.

Seeing how ruthless Samuel was, Crystal turned desperately to George and Mrs. Thomson. “Dad, Mom, I know I was wrong, I really do… Please, can’t you forgive me?”

George looked at Crystal for a long moment, his eyes heavy with disappointment and pain. When he finally spoke, his words were firm. “Samuel, I’ll leave this to you.”

He turned away and walked out without another word.

Mrs. Thomson followed him, her heart aching. She had always loved Crystal like her own daughter, never imagining she’d do something so unforgivable. She couldn’t even bring herself to look at Crystal now. After all these years, it would be a lie to say she felt nothing for her, but the overwhelming feeling was heartbreak.

Rebecca stayed silent throughout. She knew her parents, and Samuel, would handle this. After all, Crystal was the Thomsons’ adopted daughter; it was their place to deal with her mistakes.

When Crystal realized no one would defend her, despair washed over her. She collapsed onto the floor, sobbing. She’d never imagined things would go this far. She thought she could lie her way out again, win back the Thomsons’ trust. But now, her lies had been exposed. She had nothing left.

She buried her face in her hands and wept.
