“You’re right about one thing—you really don’t belong here. That’s why Grandfather has decided to strike your name from the Thomson family registry. From now on, you’re no longer part of this family. Not even as an adopted daughter.”

The words hit Crystal like a punch to the gut. For a moment, she felt as if the ground had vanished beneath her feet.
