Rebecca froze for a moment.

By the time she turned around again, he had already buttoned up his shirt, as if the scene from just moments ago had been nothing more than a fleeting slide, gone in the blink of an eye.

Dylan’s expression barely shifted—it was clear he’d already heard the news.

“Are you sure the problem is on Olson Group’s end?” Instead of questioning her directly, Dylan’s first instinct was to doubt the Olson Group. That caught Rebecca off guard.

She nodded. “As far as we can tell, our procedures have been followed to the letter. All expenses are accounted for. If anything, Olson Group Engineering looks suspicious—the materials they chose are questionable.”

Dylan considered this for a moment. “I’ll assign someone to investigate Olson Group Engineering. You don’t need to worry about it.”

“Yes, sir,” Rebecca replied.

Then Dylan added, “One more thing: go pack your things. You’ll be joining me on a business trip to Nion this afternoon.”

His tone was calm, as if this was just another routine task. But for Rebecca, the announcement was a shock.

“Nion?” she echoed, unable to hide the uncertainty in her voice, worried she’d misheard.

Dylan’s brows knit together. “Is there a problem?”

Rebecca fell silent.

Nion was the city where she’d grown up—full of memories, not all of them pleasant. The very mention of Nion brought back the night, five years ago, when her foster parents had thrown her out of their house. She hadn’t set foot in Nion since.

Dylan watched her, a hint of confusion in his eyes. He clearly couldn’t figure out why she was reacting so strongly to a simple trip.
