Gina, ever the protective mother, chimed in, “You’ve been fretting about this since last night—I’m about to go deaf! You know as well as I do that Alan has proven himself over the years. He’s more than capable of handling things. What are you still worried about?”

Alan straightened his jacket, looking serious for once. “Don’t worry, Dad. I promise I’ll do my best today.”

Sean nodded, but before he could say more, his assistant hurried over. “Everything’s set up. The lobby is ready, and Mr. Austin has just arrived.”

Sean tensed immediately. “They’re here! Let’s go—quickly!”

Alan had only recently started getting involved with the family business, so this would be his first time meeting the powerhouse from Wye. He’d heard plenty about Dylan from his father, which only made him more determined to make a good impression.

They were still talking when the elevator dinged. Out stepped Dylan and his secretary.

The Browns—Sean, Gina, and Alan—froze at the sight of the secretary. Their smiles instantly faded, replaced by stunned disbelief, as if they’d seen a ghost.

Rebecca was the first to speak, her voice composed. “Mr. Brown, Mrs. Brown—nice to meet you. This is Mr. Austin. I’m his secretary, Raina.”

Sean and Gina nearly forgot their manners, but Rebecca’s introduction snapped them back to reality.

“Mr. Austin, what a pleasure!” Sean managed, rushing forward to shake hands, his smile a little too eager.

Just a moment earlier, he’d nearly mistaken the secretary for someone else.

It was just Dylan’s secretary—but she looked uncannily like the Foster family’s long-lost daughter.

Only Alan was left standing there, completely stunned. He stared at Rebecca, unable to look away.

Sean nudged him. “Alan, what are you doing? Hurry up and greet Mr. Austin.”
