In this standout chapter of the Romance novel The Extra Who Shouldn't Exist, survivalArtist001 introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.
All of them saw the shift in Alex’s expression.
No more teasing.
No more jokes.
Just stillness.
Serious, terrifying stillness.
Without needing to be told again, Alden, Draven, and Carter nodded sharply and sprinted toward the direction Seraphina, Charlotte, and Ava had gone.
’Get them to safety. That’s our only job now,’ Alden thought grimly.
As their figures disappeared into the dense trees, Alex turned to face the duo now standing before him.
Veyra and Veyron.
The infamous Wraith Twins.
Alex’s gaze sharpened.
But then, a strange flicker.
His eyes dropped to the back of his right hand.
The cosmic mark etched into his skin had dimmed—its once-bright brilliance now a faint yellow.
Alex blinked.
’What the hell...?’
Inside his mind, the System’s voice echoed with the force of an angry parent.
[ You dumbass host! How many times do I have to tell you—show off in moderation?! ]
Alex winced mentally.
’Oh, here we go again...’
[ You used Cosmic Essence like it was candy at a birthday party. Darkness affinity, lightning affinity, Space affinity , Fire affinity, earth manipulation—all beyond your current rank! That yellow glow? It means you’ve burned 90% of it. You’re down to 10%. ]
Alex’s eye twitched.
’...So you’re saying—’
[ YES. You’re screwed. And no, you can’t fight like you did earlier. And YES again—these two were given this dimension as their domain. Killing them here is nearly impossible. ]
Alex visibly swallowed hard.
’Maybe I should quit being a villain and become a good guy instead... like these two in front of me.’
The thought barely had time to settle when the Wraith Twins closed the distance.
Now standing before him, Veyra and Veyron looked as calm as a midnight breeze—and just as deadly.
Alex gave them a charming smile.
"So, are you guys going to attack me without a warning, or was there a reason you let your goons die one by one?"
Veyra grinned and pointed at him.
"You. I want you to be mine."
Alex blinked.
"...I’m sorry. Can you run that by me again?"
Veyra stepped closer, eyes twinkling with unhinged affection.
"I said—I want you to be mine, darling."
Alex sighed.
’Useless, are you seeing this? Even villains are mesmerized by my beauty. Why am I cursed with this divine face?’
He waited for the System to chime in.
[...]
Nothing.
’Useless,’ he mentally grumbled.
Then he looked Veyra dead in the eyes.
"Sorry. Not my type."
Suddenly, Veyron’s gaze darkened. His hand moved—and a massive, black scythe materialized from the shadows like a cursed weapon born from death itself.
Alex’s instincts screamed at him.
’Not normal. That weapon isn’t just for show.’
Veyron stepped forward, his voice devoid of emotion.
"This is your final chance. Come with us, and there will be nothing in this world you cannot have. Our master, Lord Aaron, will grant you power beyond imagination."
"Refuse..." his voice turned cold, "and I’ll drag your corpse back for research. Along with your friends."
Alex raised an eyebrow, pretending to think.
"Hmm..."
Veyra placed a hand over her heart.
"Please accept it, darling. I promise to love you to death. Literally. And I really don’t want to cut off your neck and keep it as a souvenir in a jar."
Alex smiled sweetly.
"Okay. I accept your offer."
Veyra’s eyes sparkled. Veyron narrowed his gaze.
"Great," Veyra said cheerfully. "Then what do you want as your first reward?"
Alex’s grin widened devilishly.
"I want to keep your brother’s head... as a souvenir."
Both Wraith Twins froze.
Then the sky cracked.
BOOM!
Veyron moved.
His scythe came swinging like a death reaper’s judgment, aiming to slice Alex in half.
Alex immediately unsheathed his sword and blocked—
Both flew backward, tumbling.
As they recovered, they began chanting new incantations—each summoning waves of corrupted darkness laced with symbols and cursed runes.
Alex watched, eyes glinting.
A second later—
He chanted the same incantations.
Their abilities met with his... and were immediately nullified.
Again and again.
Each time they tried something new—he matched it, mirrored it, and shattered it.
Veyron’s expression twisted in frustration.
Veyra’s eyes flickered with disbelief.
"How—HOW are you doing this?!"
Alex laughed, spinning his sword lazily.
’So what if I can’t use Cosmic Essence? I can still use mana.’
"What? You can’t even touch me—and you were gonna take my head?"
He lowered his weapon slowly, smile fading.
"Playtime’s over."
His eyes burned with cold fury.
"You wanted a monster just like you guys?"
His voice dropped.
"You got one. But beware I’m the kind of monster that makes even the devil pray in fear."
