Alice sat alone in the huge room, sipping a cup of tea.
But barely a moment later, Melanie walked in.

Alice continued fiddling with her teacup, clearly not interested in talking.

“Protect me?” Alice arched an eyebrow, clearly not buying it.

“Eric became a vegetable because of a business war. You’re just some girl from the countryside–if you stay with him, you’ll only get dragged into the mess.”

Alice lowered her eyes, a cold sharpness in her gaze.
Melanie mistook it for fear.
She thought Alice had finally realized she was out of her league.

Seeing her assistant in such deep trouble, Melanie didn’t care about her own mess anymore.
She ran over immediately.
