Once Irene gave the order, someone immediately went to carry it out.

Melanie, now completely deflated, had no choice but to stay quietly by Oscar’s side.

Since Oscar had woken up and Eric had recovered, the others didn’t dare blame Alice

anymore.

Just then, Henry, the butler, came back and reported, “Mr. Charlie from the Spencers is here.”

Alice’s lips curled into a faint smile.

However, Irene frowned. “Weren’t all five brothers supposed to be with Linda at the hospital? Why’s he here?”

She didn’t say it outright, but her tone made it clear–there was no need for anyone to show up in person as long as the money was sent.

After all, Charlie was still the CEO of the Nolan Group. If this turned into a big scene, it would only make them look like a laughingstock.

Henry glanced awkwardly at Alice. “Mr. Charlie said that since the wedding’s been acknowledged, he wants to take Mrs. Nolan back to their place for a visit.”

Irene’s face darkened. “What’s that supposed to mean? They were the ones who sent her in as a stand–in, and now they want her back?”

She never liked Alice much, but now that the marriage had happened, she wasn’t about to let the Spencers just take her back like that.

Henry quickly shook his head. “No, that’s not it. He only wants her to come by for a short visit.”

Everyone turned to look at Alice.

Wasn’t she hated by her whole family?

And yet, she had just gotten married and her brothers were already so eager to have her back?

Alice smiled calmly. “Henry, did you bring the 50 million?”

Henry quickly took out the check.

“Hand it over,” she said, reaching out.

Before anyone could react, she took the check and tucked it away.

Those around her scoffed, clearly looking down on her. To them, she was nothing more than a money–hungry girl who had never seen real wealth before.

After putting the check away, Alice added casually, “Don’t forget what I’ve said. I should three times that, so you still owe me 100 million.”

Irene was shaking with rage.

Alice went on. “Oh, Mr. Oscar woke up because of me too, so that’s another 100 million. Make it quick.”

The crowd gasped.

So they should pay her 250 million in total!

She said it as if she were asking for something as simple as a salad.

Did she even understand how much money that was?

A voice suddenly cut through the air. “Dr. Hayden worked hard to take care of Mr. Oscar. Why are you taking all the credit?”

Irene’s face turned sour. Her tone turned sharp. “Alice, do you really believe you know medicine? Melanie has saved Oscar. You were just lucky to be nearby!”

Ruby added, “Exactly. Dr. Hayden is famous around the world for her medical skills. It’s not your fault if you don’t get it, Alice.”

Now everyone began to criticize Alice, saying she only cared about money.

Their harsh words hit her from all sides.

At some point, Melanie had slipped back into the room. Seeing everyone standing up for her made her secretly pleased.

But on the outside, she looked helpless.

“Please don’t argue because of me,” she said softly. “Maybe Ms. Spencer really does know

medicine.”

Calling her “Ms. Spencer” instead of “Mrs. Nolan” made it clear–she didn’t accept Alice as

Melanie even dabbed at her eyes like she was on the verge of tears.

“Since Mr. Oscar’s awake now, I should leave.”

Ruby quickly grabbed her hand. “You can’t go, Ms. Hayden. Oscar still needs your care.”

Melanie replied with a sad smile, “Let Ms. Spencer handle it. I knew she’s like a lucky charm here.”

Irene huffed. “Lucky charm? I seriously doubt it. You let her steal your credit and say nothing? What’s wrong with you?”

Tears finally fell down Melanie’s cheeks. She looked absolutely pitiful.

Alice glanced over at them, unimpressed.

It really was like watching a soap opera.

She let out a dry laugh and said, “If Dr. Hayden insists she saved Mr. Oscar, then she should stay.”

Everyone was shocked.

Didn’t she just claim the credit a minute ago? Why was she backing off now?

Even Irene and Ruby looked at her like she was acting strange.

But Alice had already turned to Eric. “Are we done yet? Let’s

go

home.”

Eric’s cold eyes settled on her.

Under the sunlight, his dark clothes looked softer, and even his expression seemed a bit

warmer.

“Let’s go home,” he said.

The second the words left his lips, Alice grabbed the wheelchair handles and started pushing him forward.

Melanie stared after them, suddenly feeling nervous.

She tugged at Ruby’s sleeve.

“Ms. Ruby, there’s something really strange about her”

Ruby waved her off. “She’s just a country bumpkin putting on a show. Nothing to worry about.”

“But… “Melanie still felt uneasy: “She did use silver needles and saved Mr. Oscar’s life.”

Ruby’s face turned serious. “You were the one who saved Oscar”

She sounded absolutely certain.

And it was the “truth” they had all agreed on.

Melanie paused for a split second before she caught on.

Relieved, she let out a soft laugh and said, “Of course. It’s what I’m here for.”

During the ride home, neither of them said a word, still wrapped up in what had at the Nolans!

Alice turned her head to look outside. A light breeze drifted in through the cracked window.

Her soft hair, already a bit messy, spilled around her shoulders.

A few loose strands fluttered in the breeze and brushed lightly against Eric’s face.

The silence in the car suddenly felt easier to breathe.

At some point, Eric’s normally cold eyes quietly settled on her face in profile.

The sunshine was warm, the sky clear with soft clouds drifting by, and a light wind blew in.

All of it mirrored in her eyes, which were both beautiful and distant.
