Ziana’s POV
I fell asleep in Zane’s arms, dreaming about us and Killian and what the future holds. Surprisingly, there were
no nightmares considering what I just went through.
Waking to the smell of bacon, sausage and eggs, mixed with the sterile hospital scent is not ideal, but a girl will take what she can get.
I open my eyes to see my mother placing a big plate on a table and wheeling it over to me and a still sleeping
Zane. Her eyes are sad as she looks at my shoulder.
“What is it?” I ask and she frowns, but ignores the question.
“How are you feeling honey? Doctor Katrina said you might be able to leave today if you promise to take it
easy.” She tells me, but now I frown.
“What’s wrong mother? Was Esmorelda not able to get any information or ideas?” I ask and she shakes her
head.
“No. Not that. Esmorelda is still conferring with the coven. She said it may take a while to get information. It’s. Well. It’s your mating mark. It doesn’t seem to be going back to normal. It seems to have faded a little
more. Do you feel any different?” She asks, panicking me.
“No. I don’t. The bonds are normal. Killian feels far away, but I still feel him and the bond hasn’t dimmed. At
least on my end. Oh goddess. Do you think he lost his bond? That it was a one sided thing?” I ask, eyes
watering at the thought. She shakes her head and reaches for my hand, squeezing it in comfort.
“No. no honey. It’s probably just the different planes. I know my bond to Warrick was weaker when I was in the veil for my pack. Let’s not think about those things until the time comes. There is no need for unnecessary panic.” She soothes and after a few moments I calm down.
“In other news there is a sweet boy named Leo waiting very impatiently to see you.” She says, with a little
chuckle. I smile at the thought of the cute boy, Aurora growls possessively in my chest at the thought of him
and I scrunch my brows in confusion.
“What is it?” Mom asks, and I focus back on her.
“Aurora just growled possessively when I thought about Leo. She is still healing me, so I can’t ask her why.” I
answer and mom smiles.
“Sometimes, the goddess sends people our way who we need or the other way around. From the sounds of it you both may need each other.” She says and I eye her. She holds up her hands.
“I asked around.” She says and I nod, taking a bite of the sausage. “Warrick told me he called you momma, when asking about you a few days ago.” She says nonchalantly. I inhale and begin to choke on the piece of
sausage I had in my throat.
Zane bolts off and looks around for danger, before settling on me and the half eaten sausage that I dropped. He begins to pat my back gently to not open the wounds, then hands me the cup of orange juice.
“Are you okay?” He asks after I take a deep breath and clear my throat.
Chapter 58
“Yeah. Uh.. Mom was just telling me about Leo.” I answer and Zane’s eyes widen. He looks at her and comes
back to me.
“Uhem. Sorry.. I forgot to tell you. I was just so worried that I forgot.” He says and I nod.
“Anyways. There is no need to be confused. Sometimes bonds form quickly between people because it is Mother Moon’s will. It sounds like Aurora is already possessive and she hasn’t even met the boy yet. Time will only tell.” Mom explains and I nod slowly. “Do you want me to send him away, or would you like to see him?” She asks and I take a moment to analyze my feelings.
There is this deep need to see him and make sure he is alright. My chest tightens as the thought of him being sent away. I quickly look at my body to ensure that my wounds are covered and nod to mom.
“I’d like to see him, please.” I answer and she nods with a smile.
“Of course. I’ll go get him.” She responds and leaves the room.
Zane doesn’t say anything, just kisses my forehead and begins to eat some of the food on the large plate.
Leo came bursting through the doors a few moments later, with my mom following behind him.
“Mo.. Wuna!” He yells, then struggles to climb on the bed. Mom lifts him up and sets him on the bed for me.
He scrambles on top of me, knocking over some of the orange juice and laying on me. I flinch at the contact,
but it is still nice.
“Hey, Leo. Buddy. Luna is hurt, you have to be careful okay?” Zane says, lifting one of Leo’s legs that was kneeing me in a particularly sore spot. I smile gratefully at him and he nods.
