After what feels like forever, we pop back into the circle we left out of. Cheers erupt around me, but I can’t focus. I feel drained. That took so much energy from me, I can barely stand straight.
It must be the same for Addie because we both have collapsed to the ground and haven’t moved.
I feel warm hands on my face, turning it towards the sky. Opening my eyes, I meet Zane’s worried ones.
“Are you okay?” He asks and all I do is not my head in response. Even that feels like it’s been weighed down by 100 pound weights.
“Ziana.” I hear Killian call, as Zane helps me up to a sitting position. I look around, and relief almost tears a sob from my chest as I look into Killian’s pink eyes.
He stops mid step and stares at me, grief colors his features.
“What did you do?” He whispers, causing me to scrunch my brows. What is he talking about? I look to Zane and his face is grim.
“She had to bind her wolf to gain back her dark magic in order to get to you.” Zane explains.
“Why would you do that?” Killian asks angrily, stomping towards me. My heart races.
“What do you mean ‘why‘? Why wouldn’t I?” I counter, finally finding my voice. Pain laces his features as he stares down at me.
“You shouldn’t have done that, Ziana. You should have left me there. You shouldn’t have given up your wolf for me.” He says angrily.
“I don’t understand why you are so angry.” I say as I struggle to my feet. Zane helps me when I make it half
way.
“What do you mean you don’t understand? You gave up your wolf so you can access dark magic again. It’s consumed you and for what?” He asks as I try to hold back my frustrated tears.
“For you. You i***t. You’re my mate Killian. I would do anything for you and Zane.” I say. I feel Zane squeeze my bicep in comfort.
“You shouldn’t have.” Killian says, pain lacing his voice. Then he turns and begins to walk away. Confusion and anger consume me as I move, quicker than I thought was possible, given my state and grab his arm to
turn him around.
“What do you mean I SHOULDN’T have?! I love you Killian. As much as you’re being a pain in my as* right now. You’re mine and I will do anything to keep you.” I state, forcing him to look at me.
“Don’t you feel it, Ziana? I’m not yours anymore.” Killian whisper and I scrunch my nose.
“What are you talking about Killian?” I ask and he huffs, then pulls away from me.
“The mate bond, It’s not there!” He explodes, causing me to stubble back. “I don’t feel it. I don’t feel the sparks. I don’t feel the bond between us. I feel the love I had for you, but that’s it. As soon as we landed the bond dimmed. We don’t have it. You should have left me there, kept your wolf. Instead of throwing her away

for this darkness so you could save a mate who isn’t your mate anymore.” He rants.

My breathing stops and i fight the urge to throw up. I look around at everybody who has stayed to watch our drama unfold. Confirming from their faces that my mind is not making this up.
“That’s not possible.” I whisper, turning back to Killian who marches up to me again and grips my arm tightly. Sparks shoot up my arm as his face turns angrier.
“SEE? Nothing! No sparks, no connection, nothing. How can you argue with the facts?” He asks as he lets go of my arm.
“Killian. I. I still feel it. I don’t understand.” I try to explain as he shakes his head. Then without a word he
leaves.
“We will figure it out. He’s just upset right now.” Zane says as he walks up and takes me in his arms.
“Ziana. Child.” I hear called, then turned to look at Esmorelda at the edge of the circle. Zane and I walk over to her as she smiles sadly at us.
“Can I see Killian’s mate mark?” She asks as we reach her. Without hesitation I pull the collar of my shirt over to show her the mark. Her face turns, then she looks at me.
“We need to try and unbind your wolf. Once that is successful, he may be able to remark you to seal the bond again.” She says and I sigh. Of course nothing is ever easy.
“Can we do it tonight? I really just want this over with. The darkness is starting to stir.” I ask. Feeling the dark magic flooding through me bubble. She nods then leads me to the same circle that was set up to bind my
wolf.
“Everyone who feels like they have more than half their energy left, please gather around. This is going to
take a lot.” Esmorelda instructs.
About 35 witches step towards the circle as Esmorelda helps me lay down in the middle.
“This may be worse than binding your wolf, Ziana. Are you sure you want to continue?” She asks and I nod.
“Please get rid of it.” I almost beg and she nods, her face taking on a look of determination as she makes her
way towards the edge.
At once all of the witches start chanting. The darkness inside me begins to rebel and I feel like I’m being set on fire again. A scream erupts from my throat as I feel liquid pour from my face. It feels like liquid silver.
I don’t think I can do this.
Killian’s POV
I feel like such an a*s. I threw a fit about not being able to feel the bond and didn’t even talk to Ziana. I’m just so upset. She is my mate. I know that, but I don’t feel it.
Sighing I walk around my room, trying to figure out what to do when I hear a blood curdling scream tear through the house. Instantly I run outside. I may not feel the bond between us, but I don’t want her to hurt.
Running back towards where we came from I see a gathered crowd and a circle with witches surrounding it. All of them chanting, while the screams grow louder.
As soon as I’m close enough to break through the circle, arms wrap around my waist.
“You can’t break the circle, it will mess up the spell.” Zane says to me. Small sparks travel around me and I

almost embrace him. Our bond isn’t gone.

“What the hell is going on?” I ask as he lets go and brings me to stand behind two smaller witches who I can
see over.
“They’re trying to unbind her wolf.” He explains. I can feel the color drain from my face as I take in the scene.
Ziana is writing on the ground in a puddle of blackness. That same black liquid is streaming from her eyes, nose and mouth. Maybe even her ears, but I can’t tell from here.
My heart hammers as I watch the scene before me. This is my fault. She didn’t need to get rid of the darkness. I would have learned to accept that face that I couldn’t‘ feel the bond. She didn’t need to do this.
“It isn’t your fault Kill. She doesn’t want the dark magic. She wants Aurora. And if you’re able to remark her, that’s a bonus.” Zane says and I nod, not fully comprehending what he is saying as her screams continue.
Finally, after about 20 minutes of her screaming, it stops. Everybody holds their breath as we wait to see
what happens. The circle has been covered in whatever was seeping out of her.
Five more minutes pass before she starts convulsing and whimpering. Then she transforms into a very large
black wolf, with a tinge of purple. I have never seen that before.
Lightning strikes in the distance and keeps making its way closer to us, until a bolt lands directly on Aurora.
Instead of it roasting her, it’s almost like she absorbs it. Wolves can’t control their gifts when transformed so
I don’t understand what is happening.
She begins to howl at the sky and I feel the tingles of her power. Almost as if it’s about to strike me. Then she shifts back, leaving a very naked Ziana laying in the puddle of darkness.
Zane and I rush towards her. I reached her first and lifted her in my arms.
I almost drop her when I feel the sparks of our bond. It isn’t complete, but it’s there.
