Chapter 604

Megan had always known that Diana was not someone to cross. In the past, though, Diana’s methods had been direct and measured. She always left room to retreat.

This was the first time Megan felt real fear. She sensed it with painful clarity. Diana did not want to warn her anymore. She wanted to crush her for good.

At those words, Theodore looked at Diana with fresh doubt. From the moment the day began, she had seemed like a different person. Before, she had been calm and decisive, yet dutiful and restrained. Today, only the decisiveness remained.

Before Theodore could question her, Diana inclined her head slightly toward the police.

A faint smile touched her lips as she spoke clearly, her voice carrying across the room. “Yes, it was me. But how is that pulling strings behind the scenes? You are the one poisoning people in secret.

“One of the Hutton family rules is never to abuse power or bully others. I am simply respecting the police and the law.”

Her words answered Megan directly. At the same time, they declared the Huttons’ stance in one clean stroke. They also pinned Megan to a pillar of public shame.

A wave of shock rippled through the guests.

So it was true. Megan had truly harmed someone. All eyes turned toward her. The gazes that once brimmed with flattery hardened into something else: disgust, contempt, and restraint, held in check only because they stood on Hutton family ground.

Megan’s mind went blank. The sensation dragged her back to the days after her parents died. Back then, the people who came to collect debts had looked at her the same way. No. Worse. Much worse.

If she lost the title of the Hutton family’s third daughter, these people would look at her exactly like that again. Terror flooded her chest.

She would never go back to that life.

In those days, Theodore had been the one who took her away. She snapped back to the present and clutched his arm, shaking her head frantically. “I didn’t do it. Dad, how could I ever do something like that?”

She only needed to hold on to Theodore’s trust. For years, that had always been enough.

This time, Diana showed no intention of sparing anyone. She cut in coldly, “Whether it was you or not, the police will decide. If there were no evidence, do you think they would be standing here?”

Theodore stared at her unyielding stance and exploded. “She’s your sister. The family raised you to this position, not so you could turn on your own blood.”

“What sister is she to me?” Diana’s voice rose sharply as father and daughter confronted each other in public. “I only know my mother gave birth to four children. Me, James, Ray, and Vee, who was lost as a child.”

“Oh my God.” Someone gasped among the guests. This time, no one bothered to hide their stares.

“So that’s it. I always thought Megan’s arrogance didn’t match the Hutton siblings at all. Turns out she’s a fake heiress.”

“If the eldest miss says it, how could it be false?”

“Looks like she crossed the line too many times, and the Huttons finally had enough.”

With her background exposed so abruptly, Megan felt stripped bare before everyone. Every whisper stabbed at her ears. Humiliation tangled with terror.

“Shut up!” Theodore’s fury flared. He raised his hand to silence the crowd, but someone caught his arm.

Raymond had moved in without anyone noticing. He half-shielded Diana as he gripped Theodore’s arm.

His gaze was icy, edged with mockery. “Sometimes, I really wonder which of us is your real child. You would strike your own children for the sake of an adopted daughter who does nothing but commit evil?”

All his children stood against him now. Theodore’s brow creased deeply as he turned to James. What he saw there was only coldness and disappointment.

Theodore swayed.
