Sydney froze.

Twenty years ago, Julian had been barely ten years old. He had no power and no influence. There was no way he could have owed two lives.

"Did I say he did it?" Tristan cut in.

He added casually, "Sins of the father, paid by the son. Sounds fair to me."

Sydney knew who "they" were.

"Relax. As long as you cooperate, I have no interest in hurting a woman about to become a mother."

Tristan checked the time on the phone resting on the coffee table. He lifted his left hand slightly.

The bespectacled man stepped forward. He looked ready to use force again, but after a warning glance from Tristan, he only gestured toward the staircase. "Ms. Wilson, please cooperate."

Sydney clenched her hands. She wanted to resist, but Tristan's cold stare held her in place. She swallowed her protest and followed the man toward the stairs.

Outnumbered, she would gain nothing by fighting.
