"Ms. Devila?"

"Hm?"

"Do you love Trevor?" I freeze the paintbrush midway up the canvas. Rex sat next to me, his legs folded just like mine as we sat on the kitchen floor. The atmosphere was warm, sunlight leaking into a small corner of the kitchen, the silent hum of the refrigerator, and the footsteps of the maids our only source of music.

My eyes move to his canvas, he drew a stick man and his family. I couldn't help but smile at it.

"Is that you?" I ask, nodding at his picture and he looks at it himself.

"It's me and my wife, and my two children."

"What are their names?"

"This is Reid," He points to his son. "And this is Nelly." He points to his daughter.

"They're both lawyers, they moved away for schooling ... they never really came back."

I frown.

"This is Dessi ... my wife."

"What was she like?" I ask softly, and he picks up his paintbrush again.

"Are you avoiding my question, Ms. Devila?"

I chuckle, "Perhaps I am."

"Is it because you love him?"

I drew an apple. I'm not sure why, I just think that's what all aspiring artists draw at first.

"It's because I don't know if I do," I answer honestly and Rex nods.

"How long have you known him?"

"A long time, I knew his father first. In my younger days, I was his bodyguard."

"You must be pretty ol-"

"I don't take lightly to people calling me, old. Old things are meant to be thrown away, and I am certainly not elderly."

"You're right," I mutter, slightly afraid. "What was Trevor like before he went to jail?"

"Hmm," Rex drops his paintbrush into the cup of water. A small smile gracing his face.

"Trevor was a walking bomb, and the slightest thing would set him off. He was always on edge, always angry, and very strict as well, but that's what made him a great leader."

"So why'd he want to leave?"
