A warm smile touched Alicia's lips as she cut straight to the chase. "Susanna showed up at White Corporation today. She wants to be my assistant. Did you know about this?"

There was a beat of silence on the line. "I'll handle her," Clayton finally said. "Go ahead and hire her, but... don't trust a word she says."

He clearly knew Susanna was playing an angle.

"She seems hyper-focused on Jade," Alicia continued. "She claimed Jade is constantly throwing herself at you, and that she caught her making secret phone calls to Brandon."

"I'll look into it," Clayton replied after a heavy pause.

He was so obviously exhausted by the petty, theatrical drama constantly swirling around him.

Yet, he had to keep up the charade. Whether he was baiting a trap or biding his time, patience was his only play right now.

"Are you..." Alicia wanted to ask more, but decided it wasn't secure enough over the phone. "Get some rest."

Hanging up, Alicia found herself puzzling over why Clayton was indulging Susanna to this extreme.
