Melisande Edwards sat in her plush office, casually spinning a fountain pen between her fingers. "You leaked the evidence about the imposter to Clayton?"

Her assistant nodded immediately. "Clayton Holloway is highly perceptive. All we had to do was arrange for the former orphanage director to give a public interview, mentioning how successful some of her former wards had become, citing Clayton at White Corp and Melisande at Edwards Group. Clayton traced the trail straight to the imposter on his own."

Melisande smiled. She admired intelligent men, and Clayton certainly fit the bill.

She had no intention of marching up to him and declaring she was the real Sue. She wanted him to investigate, to put the pieces together, and to find his way to her.

Men only treasured what they fought to discover.

"Clayton has already turned the imposter over to the police, along with Jade White," her assistant added with a smirk.

Melisande's pen stopped spinning. She had been mildly concerned that Clayton might show Jade mercy out of respect for the late Patriarch Reginald White, which could complicate their eventual reunion.

She had even debated using Natalia to eliminate Jade quietly.

Now, it seemed her worries were unfounded. Jade might have thought she was clever, but she was fundamentally an idiot. If she couldn't even handle Alicia Shelton, she was certainly no threat to Melisande.

Her smile deepened, satisfaction dancing in her eyes.

Clayton was so brilliant; it wouldn't be long before he realized who the real Sue was.

"Miss Edwards, should we drop any more hints to expedite his search?" the assistant asked quietly.

Melisande raised a hand. "No. Let him come to me."

She took a leisurely sip of her coffee, deeply satisfied with the board she had set. She never imagined the scrawny little boy she favored in her childhood would grow into such a formidable, protective wolf.

Clayton perfectly matched her criteria for a partner. He was capable, and like her, he was an orphan. Not only would he never look down on her background, but they likely shared the same ruthless ambition.

A comrade-in-arms with aligned goals was infinitely more valuable than some entitled, pedigreed trust-fund fool.
