Clayton worked relentlessly, burning through the files until past ten o'clock at night.

He still had a meeting with one of the project leads. Since he had promised Alicia he would handle Jade's workload, he intended to clear every single task she threw at him.

"Mr. Holloway, the dinner with Mr. Howard and Mr. Chamberlain is all set. They were both eager to attend when they heard you were hosting," the assistant said, walking in with a professional smile.

An invitation directly from Clayton was an opportunity no executive would dare turn down.

Initially, those men had hesitated to collaborate with White Corporation because Clayton's stance on Alicia had seemed ambiguous. Now that Clayton was personally stepping in, they were intrigued.

They had no idea what kind of deal Clayton and Alicia had struck, or why he was suddenly doing the heavy lifting.

But they respected Clayton's ruthless competence, and no one wanted to get on his bad side.

"Natalia is still waiting for you in the lobby," the assistant added quietly.

Clayton shot him an icy look. "Take my car and drive out first. I'll take a different vehicle."

He was using his assistant as a decoy to throw Natalia off.

He had no intention of seeing her. Only by pushing her to absolute desperation would she finally turn on the Gentleman.

That outcome would benefit both him and Tyrone.

The assistant nodded and hurried out to execute the plan.

Back at Clayton's residence.

Jade lounged on the sofa, aimlessly wiggling her injured foot. Her mind was spiraling. How long would it be until Melisande moved in here?

Clayton had been gone all day. It was nearing midnight, and he still wasn't back. Were he and Melisande finally having their grand reunion?

"Fine..." Jade muttered, standing up to head to her room. Just then, the front door clicked open, and Clayton walked in.

Jade turned instinctively. Clayton's face was flushed, his collar loosened, and he reeked of expensive liquor. He had clearly been drinking heavily.

She stared in shock. It was the first time she had ever seen him this inebriated.

He was always so aloof and composed; very few people had the nerve or the leverage to make Clayton drink like this.

"Oh, Jade, please keep an eye on him for a second! I'll go whip up a hangover cure to settle his stomach," the housekeeper said, bolting toward the kitchen.

Jade stood frozen. How was she supposed to take care of a drunk man? She had no experience with this.

Besides, Clayton was a notoriously massive germaphobe. If she rushed over and grabbed him, he would definitely accuse her of taking advantage of his intoxication.

Panicking as Clayton swayed against the doorframe, Jade grabbed a decorative baseball bat from the corner. She rushed over, extending the bat out like a barrier between them. "Grab onto this! I'll guide you to the sofa!"
