She stepped out of the hospital, only to be met by two people approaching her.

Amelia, with practiced familiarity, had her arm linked with William's, a smile on her face as she said, "Margaret, it's been a while. I have some good news. William and I are together now."

Margaret's lips trembled, her ears ringing as she struggled to process the words.

She turned to look at William, but his eyes showed no attempt to hide his disgust.

"Why waste your time with her? She's just a joke," William sneered, his cold gaze piercing through her. "Margaret, you never thought I would stand up again, did you? Three years ago, when the doctors told me I’d be a cripple for life, you were quick to leave me. I begged you, gave up my pride, but you still walked away!"

Margaret shook her head desperately, "William, that's not what happened. Let me explain—"

William scoffed. "Explain? Are you going to say you didn’t betray me?"

Margaret opened her mouth to tell him the real reason she left, but Amelia interrupted her sharply, "Margaret, since you abandoned William, you wouldn't be angry that I'm with him now, right?"

A wave of fury and despair surged through Margaret as she glared at her former best friend. "Amelia, you played me?!"

Three years ago, Margaret had promised Amelia that she would never hurt herself for William's sake, knowing William loved her. That was why Margaret had made the decision to break up with him.

His fist clenched in rage, William pointed at Margaret with a fury that seemed to radiate from every fiber of his being. "What, are you still going to try to hurt Amelia? She stayed by my side when I was at my lowest, and I won’t allow anyone to lay a finger on her!"

Blood filled Margaret's mouth as she struggled to speak, her voice hoarse. "William, I didn’t betray you. It was Amelia—"

"Shut up!"

William roared, his anger flaring as he looked at Margaret, the past flooding his mind, the hurt and betrayal clear in his eyes. He didn’t want to hear another word from her.

His hands tightened around her throat, his vision beginning to blur with rage. "You’re still denying it? Get her out of here! Take Margaret to the estate. I want her to suffer!"
