"Th-Thank you." She looks down once more, to my displeasure. I find myself smiling, realizing I've been smiling since I bumped into her.

"Okay, Sissy! I got it!" Little man came bounding towards us, with a box of Cookie Crisp cereal in his little hands.

"Let me see. Are you sure you want these Benny?" He nodded enthusiastically. "Okay. Well we need to get what else we need and go home okay?" Benny's excitement went down noticeably when Layla mention having to go home. He looked a little bit scared.

He tugged on her jacket and asked, "Who's your friend?"

She looked stunned for a second, then looked to me and responded, "This is Jordi. He's a friend from school."

"Are you best friends wike me and Wogan?"

She looked like she didn't know what to say, so I answered for her. "We're not best friends yet, but we might be soon." Giving him a smile, he perked up when he saw me smiling down at him.

"I wike you. You're nice."

"Thank you. I like you too, bud, you're cute." I bent down and tickled him a little, making him giggle. Looking up at Layla, she had that same genuine smile on her face, only this time it was bigger.

She shook her head, then spoke, "Alright, we should get going. B-Bye Jordi. I'll s-see you tomorrow, I guess?"

"Sure thing." Giving her a dimple baring smile, I watched her take Little Man's hand and walk away. When she turned the corner I just looked up and thought, How much better could my mate get? She's gorgeous, sweet, adorable, and good with kids? Wow.

Walking towards the back of the store now, I grabbed a twelve pack of Diet Cokes for my dad, and made my way up to the register to pay. I still had the biggest smile on my face.

Now it's changed again. I see Marcus, charging towards me. This is the scene of when he first beat me. As soon as his hands lock around my throat the scene changes again.

Bolting up from my bed, I find moisture on my cheeks. I realize I've been crying. I haven't had a nightmare in ages. Taking deep breaths, I swing my legs to the side of the bed.

Realizing I'm not gonna be able to go back to sleep, I get out of my bed completely, immediately missing the warmth of the covers. I head to take a shower and then brush my teeth, doing all the necessities along with those. One of those necessities is covering up my bruises from yesterday.

Now, looking at my clock, I see it's about an hour until I have to leave for school.

Heading to the kitchen, I decide to cook Marcus waffles this morning. Getting the necessary appliances out, I start on his waffles. I make sure to add chocolate-chips, which are his favorite, and also Benny's favorite. After about thirty minutes of cooking and cleaning the dishes, it's about time I wake up Ben.
