Flies were buzzing all around my car.
My coworkers saw the scene and didn't know how to console me. They just covered their noses and hurried away.
I was shaking with anger. I grabbed my phone to call the police, but my boss stopped me.
"You can't call the police. It's bad for the company's image," he said. "I'll pay for you to get the car cleaned."
But I couldn't swallow my anger. The surveillance footage clearly showed Ashley pouring two buckets of something all over my car.
Even though she was fully covered, I recognized her immediately.
My boss saw how upset I was and tried to comfort me. "You've just become the director. If you make a big deal out of this, higher-ups might get the wrong idea," he said.
He looked around and added, "Besides, it's not worth jeopardizing your career over someone like her."
After saying that, he didn't wait for my input. He just called someone to come and take the car to be cleaned.
That day, I truly understood what it meant to not stoop to a scoundrel's level. I had to force myself to swallow my anger.
By the time I walked into the neighborhood, it was already getting dark.
Victor was playing on the slide with a few little girls.
The weather hadn't cooled down yet, so the girls were all wearing skirts.
As they slid down the slide, their skirts lifted, and he could almost see their underwear.
Victor was standing in a spot where he had a better view under their skirts than I did.
Victor didn't notice me approaching. He actually took out his phone and snapped several pictures under the girls' skirts.
"What are you doing?" I demanded.
He was startled. Before he could react, I had already snatched the phone out of his hand.
He wasn't a fool at all.
A group of old folks gathered around, saying, "Eric got rich and now he bullies poor people."
I tried to calm my raging anger. "His phone has pictures of the little girls under their skirts," I said.
The crowd fell silent immediately.
The police arrived quickly and took us to the station.
Victor wasn't detained. He just had to pay a fine.
Because he had a disability certificate, the police just gave him a verbal warning.
When we left, Victor looked at me and smiled. "Believe it or not, even if I kill you, I won't go to jail," he said.
