"I want a personal lawyer. Someone who doesn't know me yet. Do you know what Sarah did?" Yes! I knew what Sarah did. The entire company knew what his ex wife did. "She wants to take the house, the twins, my dog, my parrot, the big boat." He sighed. "The only reason she isn't taking my company is because it would be too much work for her. So lazy." He clicked his tongue. "I mean, I'm glad she left me with something, but tell me Sky, what good is all of this if you have no one to share it with?" He motioned around his ginormous office.
"I understand. I'll see how I can help. Maybe my father knows someone."
Gavin nodded his head. "Thank you. And give him my regards, won't you?"
I quickly ran out of his office, not bothering to change out of my heels and into my flats until I made it to the lobby. You could say I'm mean for not showing any sympathy towards him, but I'm not mean. Gavin was hardly ever home. He was irresponsible and feckless. That's one of the reasons why Sarah ended it with him in the first place. Gavin being a full time father would never work out, because that just wasn't him. Now you could call her a bitch for taking the parrot and boat.
It was raining. Fantastic! I didn't mind the walk to the hotel, because that was close and I had my umbrella. The problem would be getting to the restaurant. It was already hard to catch a cab in the city. Add a few drops of rain and thirty degree weather, that's when it really became impossible.
I almost got hit by three different cars on my way back. It actually took a lot of effort from my part to not die in freak accidents, they seemed to follow me around all the time. I came so close to death day after day that I had just grown used to it. There must be a guardian angel following me around, because I should've been dead by now.
The hotel was warm and bright. Colorful Christmas lights surrounded the main lobby and there was a huge decorative Christmas tree in the corner with fake presents beneath it. I was beginning to consider this home. Having no actual apartment didn't bother me so much anymore. What's better than a beautiful place with a pool, jacuzzi, room service, a bar, Dante... the list just went on.
I swapped my work clothes for a black dress and another pair of evil heels, I quickly blow dried my hair, fixed my makeup and ran back outside, late.
It took me about twenty five minutes for to find a cab, and not only did I wait all that time, but I had to bribe the driver by emptying out my wallet because it was going to be such a far trip. I'm a cab driver's best friend.
There was a lot of traffic because of the weather. Luckily my father wasn't too upset. That's how it is though. You tend to have a better relationship with the people you hardly ever see.
"Skyla!" My dad stood up from the table to give me a hug. Caroline, his wife did the same.
"Are you seeing anyone?" She asked excitedly. I swear, hanging out with Caroline is like hanging out with my friends. The only difference was that she sleeps with my dad.
My father looked at me as she asked. "No." I finally answered. "I'm not officially seeing anyone."
"So does that mean that you're talking to someone?" Caroline was just as pushy as Jade.
Father cut in. "I spoke to your mother." He said as he wiped his mouth. My heart sank down to my knees. "Now, I'm not going to reprimand you or even ask what happened, because quite frankly I don't want to know. I do know that you are are a very respectable young woman who does not whore around." Okay... great talk, Dad.
"But Skyla, I think you should call your mother." He continued. "I'm not saying that she's right about any of this. I don't even know if she told me the truth, because let's face it, you're mother has the tendency to exaggerate." She did. "We know how desperate she must be if she called me." My parents didn't speak regularly after the divorce, so maybe she wasn't doing too good.
