I looked over to Dante who was still on the floor, with blood pouring through the wound on his abdomen. He looked dead.
I didn't take Silvio's hand right away, so he decided to grab mine, and drag me into one of the black cars that was parked in front of the house.
He sat with me in the back seat. I watched him take off his jacket and tie it tightly around my bleeding arm. Nick shot my shoulder.
"Dante?" I asked weakly. I couldn't see straight anymore. "Where is he? They shot! What happened?"
Silvio ignored each and every one of my questions. I kept asking until I couldn't anymore. Until my body gave up. Never did I get an answer.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
It was driving me insane. I tossed and turned, trying to get away from the annoying beep. Finally I opened my eyes. The beeping was still there.
It was the heart monitor by my bed. The hospital bed. Why was I in the hospital?
It took me a few minutes before I remembered what happened. Nick kidnapped me, then Angela got shot. She died. My cousin died trying to save me.
I pushed through the thoughts, not ready to cry yet. Not ready to feel the pain. I was still in denial. I couldn't accept the fact that she died.
Nick hurt my head. He hit me with his gun as I tried to unlock the door. That's why my head was wrapped in a bandage right now. That's why I had a headache.
Then Dante. Dante got shot because of me. He was trying to save me but got shot instead. I could clearly remember him lying on the floor as I picked up a gun and shot. One man fell because of me. Did I kill him? I had no idea, but I chose to believe that I didn't. He was just hurt.
Nick shot my shoulder, which was why it was wrapped up, and in pain. I could barely even move it.
He had me. He could have shot me and killed me, but Silvio shot him. Why would Silvio save me after what happened between us?
I needed to know what happened to Dante first. He could not die. He promised me that he wouldn't die. He said everything would be ok.
"You're finally awake." I heard Silvio say. He sat there in a fresh suit, unscratched. "I've been sitting here for hours. The nurse said you'd be fine, but I was beginning to question it."
"Where's Dante?" I asked.
Silvio ignored my question. "How is your arm? Mine is healing."
"Where's Dante?" I asked again. I sounded like a broken record.
"I just wanted to make sure you understood that you can not tell any of this to anyone. Ever. I'll bring the paperwork in later for you to sign, agreeing. You can not say what happened to your cousin or Nick. We will have to make something up.
"Ms. Williams, you need to rest. Everything will be ok."
"No it won't." I gave up. I stopped trying to fight because I was too weak. "It's not going to be ok. He died. He promised-?
"Who?" She asked.
"Dante. Dante and Angela. They died because of me."
"Dante Di Stefano?" She asked.
"No." I said sarcastically. "Who do you think I'm talking about?"
"He didn't die." She explained. "They rushed him in for emergency surgery. Everything came out good though. He's right upstairs."
"Upstairs?" A huge weight lifted off my chest as she said those three words. He didn't die.
"Yes. He's in recovery. You can see him as soon as we put him in his own room."
I hated this lady as she tried to hold me back earlier, but now I was beginning to like her. She had a strong maternal side.
