My vision blurred with pain, stars dancing in my eyes.

I lay sprawled on the floor, dazed.

A young nurse hurriedly stepped in front of me, panic written all over her face.

She was terrified—Michael's fury had that effect on people.

But even so, she tried to shield me.

When we first started dating, a wealthy socialite mocked me to my face.

Michael had her drenched in paint and dumped outside her husband's office.

Another time, one of the Johnson family's affiliate businesses tried to take me down in a power struggle.

Michael wiped them out overnight.

Stock prices crashed, and the head of the family threw himself into a river.

No one even knew if it was suicide or not.

Time had passed.
