Waking Up from Anesthesia, I Signed the Divorce Papers novel Chapter 9

I checked myself out of the hospital while he wasn't around and went back to my own home. 

Michael came knocking on my door every day, but I ignored him. 

He didn't get my forgiveness.

Instead, he got divorce papers. 

As I recovered at home, my health improved significantly, and soon, I returned to the hospital for a follow-up. 

Somehow, Michael found me there.

He placed the divorce papers in front of me, looking frustrated and defeated. 

"Sarah, we are not getting divorced!" 

I calmly slipped my medical report into my bag and asked, 

"Oh yeah? Why not?" 

"I only stepped aside for Hailey because that's what you wanted!" 

"Bullshit!"

"There's nothing between me and Hailey, not like you think!"

"I would never choose her over you!" 

"So… you were just messing around?" 

Michael panicked.

He grabbed my shoulders, his voice trembling. 

"Sarah, I was wrong. I swear, I'll never let this happen again."

Every moment at home, every time I closed my eyes, I saw him running straight to Hailey, ignoring me completely. 

I saw the way he held her, full of tenderness and care. 

I heard the way he shouted at the hospital, the way he raged in guilt, the sweet nothings he whispered. 

And now, he was swearing to me that it was over? 

Yeah, right. 

Seven years. 

All that time, and the only skill he'd truly mastered was lying through his teeth. 

If I hadn't nearly died, I might've believed his nonsense again.
