A low rumble vibrated in Lance’s chest, and his Alpha aura quietly filled the bedroom, causing the fire in the hearth to dim.
“She’s confessed to most of the leads we already had,” Lance said. “But there’s one part of her statement that’s a direct hit on Zander. She’s swearing up and down that she only slaughtered the village because she was following his secret orders.”
Adelaide’s eyes snapped open, sharp and lethal. Her fingernails shifted into jagged wolf claws, tearing through the silk sheets
beneath her.
“So… the problem isn’t getting her to talk anymore. It’s making her change her story.”
Lance’s gaze was just as bone–chilling. “I’ve already put pressure on the interrogation unit. They know they have to play by my rules.”
Adelaide forced herself to retract her claws, letting out a cold, bitter laugh. “By dragging Alpha Zander down with her, she turns herself into a mindless weapon. She thinks if she isn’t the mastermind, she might walk away from the noose.”
A bloodthirsty red glint flickered in Lance’s eyes. “She won’t get her wish. Her word alone doesn’t hold water. When the army headed to the Bloodscar Border, Zander was wounded twice. Once in the very first battle on the front lines, and the second time… was exactly when the troops were moving toward Snowdeer Town.”
Lance scoffed. “Zander was in a coma for three straight days because of the poison in his system back then. How exactly was he supposed to issue secret execution orders to her?”
Adelaide calmed down slightly, the white–hot rage in her eyes cooling into a simmer. “Velda is desperate. But regardless of the truth, we need witnesses to crush her testimony. What about that officer who was with her… Brock Freeman? Has he been secretly moved back to the capital yet?”
“Everyone we need is already locked in our high–security cells,” Lance said, leaning down to kiss her hair. “The interrogators are running split–sessions on them tonight. Don’t worry. First thing tomorrow morning, I’m going down there myself to break them.”
“Good,” Adelaide nodded.
Brock was the weak link. They had acted together in Snowdeer Town. Whether they were following orders or just took the opportunity to loot and kill–only breaking Brock’s mental defense would give them the leverage to take down Veida’s lies
The next morning, the air was thick with a heavy frost.
Lance threw on his greatcoat early. He knocked out his morning paperwork before heading straight for the interrogation blocks Meanwhile, Adelaide dressed in formal court attire and headed to the Palace alone.
She wanted to ask Clarissa for permission for Cedric to visit Alpha Zander. If she went to Lycan Erasmus with this, it would inevitably get sucked into a political whirlpool; he’d probably suspect the Blackthorns of plotting something in the shadows
But asking Clarissa was different. She still cherished her long history with the Doyles. Since Zander was already under house arrest. if Clarissa approved a “family visit,” the political rivals wouldn’t have an excuse to call it interference in state affairs.
Inside the ornate Palace, the air was heavy with perfume. Adelaide suppressed her aggressive Gamma aura, kneeling dutifully at
Clarissa’s feet.

Clarissa granted the request immediately. She offered some gentle words of comfort, hinting that Lycan Erasmus would surely consider Zander’s legendary service and show leniency, telling Adelaide not to panic.
Not only that, but Clarissa went a step further. She ordered Richard to take a massive supply of rare herbs and tonics to the estate and commanded him to stay there for a few days to look after Zander personally.
Adelaide was stunned, and a wave of gratitude washed over her.
