Third Person’s POV
“I was out of my mind back then,” Velda said, her voice as flat as if she were narrating someone else’s life.

“I thought that if I were the one to sign the peace treaty, the ultimate glory would be mine. That’s why I ordered Pierce to retreat twenty miles and leave only twelve soldiers behind. On one hand, it gave Ulrik time to burn the granaries; on the other, I had to make sure my men and I could retreat safely after the signing.”
She looked down at the silver chains on her wrists, her gaze drifting.
“I was worried those twelve soldiers would be top–tier elite fighters. But among the ones he left behind, one was a strategist and three were healers.”
She paused, her mouth twitching into a ghost of a smirk.
“At that point, I had no reservations. The signing went smoother than I expected. After it was done, we used that wolf as a shield to retreat to the foot of the mountain before letting him go.”
Everyone knew what happened next. She met up with Ulrik, told him about the treaty, and they headed back to the Bloodscar border.
Pierce’s side sent a liaison to finalize things, and just like that, she became a decorated war hero.
Russell had questioned her repeatedly about how she managed to get Pierce to sign.
She and her men had their story straight: they had intercepted Pierce and an elite squad of twelve; a skirmish ensued, Pierce was captured, and the treaty was signed under duress.
Russell was skeptical, but Pierce had vanished from the front lines for a time, and his signature was undeniably on the document. All they needed was Alpha Zander’s signature to make it official.
The clerk kept the identity of the Western Tribe Crown Prince hidden, referring to him only as the “young wolf.”
Since the Western Tribe’s formal protest hadn’t explicitly named the Crown Prince, the North wasn’t about to be the first to say it.
They would wait to see the ambassadors‘ attitude before making a move.
Lucas sat there listening, his nose tracking every shift in the room’s scent. Velda’s pheromones were heavily suppressed by the silver, but he could still detect a bone–chilling, indifferent calm.
He had already heard the story of the massacre from Brock and the others. Hearing it again made his skin crawl.
His wolf let out a low, disgusted growl.
His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried more weight than a shout.
“How can a wolf be as cold–blooded as you? You’ve brutally murdered surrendering soldiers and slaughtered civilians. Your actions are the direct reason the Frostfangs was wiped out.”
“Cold–blooded?”

Velds slowly lifted her eyes, which were filled with nothing but a harsh, sober reality.

“We’re talking about war. What does ‘cold blooded‘ even mean? They were hiding in civilian homes, if i didn’t use force to flush them out, would they have surrendered voluntarily?”
Her scent flared slightly–the metallic smell of old armor. Even bound by silver, the core of a warrior leaked through.
“You noble wolves in the capital love your grand speeches. If you spent one day on the front lines, you’d know what kind of place it is. If you aren’t ruthless, someone else stabs you. Once I knew they were in that village, if I didn’t force them out, my own soldiers would be at risk of an ambush every second. Are our lives not worth anything?”
She turned her head away toward the stone wall.
It was a tiny movement, but Lucas caught a flicker of something in her scent–a brief flash of guilt, quickly shoved down.
Her voice steadied.
“As for the Frostfangs, that was the work of Western Tribe agents. If Adelaide wants revenge, she can go find the Western Tribe. Isn’t she supposed to be so capable? Blaming me for her pack’s disaster… that’s not strength. That’s an excuse.”
“Even now, you don’t feel a shred of remorse.” Lucas stood up, looking at her with pure disbelief.
“It’s a disgrace, considering how much Lycan Luna Clarissa liked and promoted you.”
He raised his hand, signaling the guards to take her back.
As Velda was led away, the silver chains rattled against the floor tiles. Her back remained perfectly straight.
