Chapter 799
Third Person’s POV
The color drained from every wolf’s face.
Sybil’s lips trembled as she mumbled under her breath, “No… that’s impossible… that can’t be right…”
Raymond shot her a suspicious look.
“Sybil, what are you talking about?”
“I…” Sybil glanced at the Princess, quickly averting her eyes to hide her guilt. “I just think this is all ridiculous…”
She grit her teeth and added, “What if that candle is packed with slow–acting toxins? If we light it, we all go down! Don’t fall for it!”
Damian nodded instinctively; Sybil had voiced his exact concern.
He had nothing to do with Helia being poisoned. With his political survival instincts, he’d already pegged Sybil as acting shady, but as long as Helia was out of the negotiations, it worked in his favor, so he’d stayed out of it.
However, his red line was Helia’s life.
Lucian was already dead. Even though Helia was making his life difficult at the table, she was still a high–ranking Lycan. Damian had sworn an oath to the crown, and he wouldn’t stand by while someone murdered her.
“Sybil didn’t plan this alone,” he thought. “Who turned her? Was it Lycan Erasmus?”
The questions swirled in his head, but he couldn’t find a single solid answer.
While Damian was lost in thought, Prunella turned to Sybil with a sneer.
“We’re all standing in the same room! If the candle were poisoned, do you really think we’re stupid enough to suicide along with you?”
Sybil shot back, “You probably took the antidote already!”
Prunella looked at her like she was an idiot.

“Why would we even do that? Killing your Princess gets us nothing but a total war. How does that help us?”
The envoys all turned to Wesley, waiting for his professional opinion.
Wesley kept his mouth shut.
As a high–level healer, he’d only read about these parasites and their “scented cures” in ancient black magic texts. He’d never actually seen it done.
Digby raised his voice, losing his patience.
“Princess Helia has been out for hours! If you keep wasting time, even the Moon Goddess won’t be able to save her!”
He snapped his medical bag shut and turned toward the door.
Raymond and Wesley panicked, rushing to block him. “No, wait! You can’t leave!”
Digby’s eyes cut through them like a blade.

At that moment, Celeste Guzman shot a cold look at Sybil before addressing the voice was firm and decisive.

“I say we listen to Digby. Light the candle. If it’s poison, they die with us. If it doesn’t work, we find another way.”
This was what everyone was thinking, but only Celeste–with the backing of the powerful Wasteland Rider Pack–had the spine to say it out loud.
The envoys nodded in agreement. Under a roomful of tense stares, Digby lit the candle and placed it by Helia’s pillow.
Before it was lit, the wax had given off a peaceful, light floral scent.
But as the flame licked the wick, a thick, nauseating smell of rotting blood filled the air.
The high–ranking wolves in the room, with their sensitive noses, immediately covered their faces, fighting the urge to gag as they watched Helia.
Within minutes, something horrifying happened.

Small, nearly transparent worms began to crawl out of Helia’s ears and nostrils.
They were tiny, like wet silken threads.
