"Logan," Geena said bringing my attention back to the table. "You okay?"
"No, not really," I replied.
"Is it Max?" she asked. I nodded. "You should go to her, she might need it."
"I don't want to push her. Not today," I stated and looked to the table.
"Well, it's late, I think we should all be heading to bed anyway," Mom said with a small smile.
Everyone agreed and everyone left but Geena, Mom, and me. I looked over to the clock the hung on the wall. I didn't even realize it was already eleven o'clock. How long did we all sit at that table? I shook my head and headed towards the stairs to go to my room. As I passed my Max's room, I stopped and stared at the door for a minute contemplating whether or not I should go in there or not. I wanted to, but did she? I sighed and continued my way tot he stairs all the way to my room.
I laid on my bed unable to fall asleep after hearing what my mate had told me. How much more could she possibly have to tell? I want to know everything about her, but I can't help but feel a little scared from what she has to tell, from what I've already heard it's not great and I can't help but feel it's only going to get worse.
Instead of laying in my bed all night, I finally decided to go to Max. Walking through the dark hallways and back down the stairs. Reaching Max's door I was going to knock, but not wanting to wake her up if she was sleeping, I just cracked to door open and peeked inside. I saw her laying on her stomach on top of the blankets. She wasn't doing anything but laying there so I just assumed she was sleeping. Tip-toeing into the room, I made my way to the bed and nearly fell when Max rolled over to look at me.
"Trying to tip-toe in here when you walk like an elephant isn't that smart, or quiet," Max stated in a quite voice.
"I don't walk like an elephant!" I argued, but dropping it quickly. "Why are you up?"
"Eh, I didn't want to sleep because I know all too well that nightmares follow," she says as slides over on the bed giving me space to lay down with her.
"I guess it's time to tell you rest of this story," Max said sadly.
"You don't have to," I quickly stated.
"You already said that, and you should know my answer to that," she murmured.
I sighed. She didn't get any sleep because she is bringing all of this up and was scared of the nightmares it would bring. I thought me being here with her would help, but I guess it didn't.
"When I an away from my burning prison, I didn't stop until I thought I was safe. I ran and ran until I couldn't anymore, and that just so happens to be the time when I met Ethan," Max started and I couldn't help but growl at that. "We literally bumped into each other and I must've looked terrible since he looked worried for me, a complete stranger. Ethan, even though he didn't know me, decided he was going to help me. Just by looking at the state I was in, he knew I didn't have anything, so he introduced me into the underground fight clubs. That's when I began to build up my strength and stamina. Apart from the training, Ethan schooled me since I never went to school and helped me with my troubles since I only new confinement and abuse."
