Adopted novel Chapter 1

We were told not to leave the orphanage today such announcement happens once in a while, perhaps it's another social worker visit but they were around last week. The authorities are taking more steps than usual, new clothes are been bought and given to us yesterday, our rooms are being cleaned by the janitors and the surrounding is look so different.

"I don't think it's the social worker coming," Oceania said sounding confused why she walks around the room.

"I was about saying the same thing Nia, the preparation is just so different," Sky replies look up from the book his face was buried in.

"Maybe it's an adoption," I voiced out joining the conversation while looking toward Nia, who suddenly put a stop to her walk.

"If it's an adoption, then why to ask us to stay also, I mean who want to adopt a 16years old," Sky asked me with strange look on his face.

"Who know maybe they just want us stay and pretend to be happy, you know the drill," Oceania answered on my behalf.

"Have you losers heard," May beamed walking into our room with a huge grin on her face.

"Have you heard of knocking," Sky replies her while he sits upon his bed?

May is next room neighbor because she behaves like a spoilt child, we all grew up here and no one has time to spoil anybody, she's the perfect bimbo and has always been our tormentor growing up till date.

"So the mouse wants to bite," she said to him while she checks her nails with a smirk on her face.

"Please May, we don't want trouble," Oceania pleaded with her not wanting any further abuse taking place.

"Well, the authorities are expecting some couples and I think they are three couples," She started looking confused, she played with the tips of her faked blonde hair for some minute, she forgets things easily. " Now I remember, the authorities are expecting four couples, and do you know the most intriguing part of it," she said eagerly clapping her hands with a huge smile on her face.

I looked at Nia and Sky if by chance any of them know the answer to her question, but they were both looking at May waiting for her to continue talking, " We don't know, May." I answered her rhetorical question timidly and I see nodding their heads in agreement to my answer, with fear of being insulted and beaten by her.

"Of course you know nothing nerd, why do I keep disturbing my brain talking to you? Well, you won't spoil my fun I will just tell you; they want to adopt 4 sixteen-year-old," she screams hopping on a spot with her hair bouncing on her shoulder.

Bright Orphanage is a big name in society, it's a private organization where the wealthy and famous tend to make donations, we get lots of things from clothes to funds and food. I would say materially, we are doing good and we have no lacks just the moral and physical upbringing that they lack here.

We have social workers come in once a week to check on our upbringing and we have to look good and be in our best behavior, even if the way we are being treated isn't that good no one wants to leave here to a government organization or a foster home, we all grow up knowing this place as a house and not a home, so we have to look happy for the social workers or you will be moved.

The Orphanage is one of the most visited organizations for wealthy and famous couples, who are looking into adoption but they only adopt kids below 10 years old, no one wants to adopt a teenager who will be faulty just like I and my friends, that's why the authorities take care of kids below ten years old properly.

We give up hope and dreams of being adopted once we clock ten, it's then the real struggle for survival begins, and the dream of being adopted and ever having a name and a family to call yours is been crushed. The best thing that can ever happen to any of us will be getting adopted because it means a better life than what is been imagined and drawn for us here especially by a good family, the organization is being visited by the rich and famous in the society for adoption, hence the good family.

It is very rare for an adoption to take place, in my sixteen years in this place have only experienced adoption once and that was 10years ago, the couple adopted a baby boy, and ever since then the organization has not been visited for adoption but charities and all. We attend one of the best public schools in Texas, it's far from the orphanage but we have a bus that drops us in the morning and picks us up after school, if by chance you miss the bus you just have to walk back home.

The typical high school is what Weston High is, we have the jocks and their cheerleaders, the preps, the nerds, the gamers, the student governor and their overbearing deputies, the wallflowers, the artists, and the nobodies (who are at the very bottom of the food chain), the nerds are preferred to the nobodies which is where I and my friends fit in, we are the unwanted plants in the society the orphans who nobody wants to take care of and they do well to remind us about just how unwanted we are.
