Although some of the kids from the orphanage fits into a group or another, I and my friends are the most unfit ones, the unwanted and the unfortunate ones and we all have our shares of scars to serve as a reminder that we have no one to stand up for us and nothing can be done about it.

My name is Hazel, just Hazel no last name because I was not found with one. I was found behind the dumpster beside the Orphanage with nothing but a beanie, the clothes on me and an expensive silk wrapped around me. The authorities said I was found three days after my birth, which makes my birthday 3rd of May. I was found with no name so I was named after my eye color, my friends Sky and Oceania both have blue colored eyes but different shades of blue. Sky's eyes color is like that of the clear blue sky while Oceania's eyes color is like that of the deep blue ocean.

I am 16years old, a black American, am slender with a few curves in the appropriate place, a full wavy waist-length black hair, a heart shape face, and diamond shape pink lips, a pointed nose, and my hazel eyes. I love reading and I only have two friends (Sky and Oceania) who are almost the same age as I am. Oceania is older than I and Sky by three months, making her the oldest amongst us but I think Sky should be few days older than me because he was found when he was almost a week old. I and Sky are not orphans like most of the kids in here, Sky was also found but he was abandoned in the orphanage parking lot. Oceania is the only orphan, she is the only survivor of a ghastly car accident that claimed the lives of her family when she was just two years old none of her family came forward to claim her, the social workers had to bring her with the permission of the orphanage.

Sky is gay, he came out of the closet last year and although it's been a challenging year for him, we still love him no matter what his sexuality says, we look after each other and have one another's back during bad and good times but we rarely have the good times. We've been friends for the past twelve years and we always pick each other up during difficult times although we all have our fair share of pains, scars and hurt, we try to be there and overlook our own pains for one another. Sky gets bullied a lot due to his sexuality coupled with the fact that he's a nobody in the social circle, he was raped by one of the security men before he came out of the closet only to be ganged rape by a group of girls after he did and he's has lots of scars from previous abuse and assaults.

Oceania also has had her own fair share of assault and abuse after she got here, she was first assaulted sexually at age fourteen which almost caused a huge mental breakdown because she didn't expect it but with time, she recovered only to be assaulted the second time last year by another group of guys. She has come a long way after each assault but she never allows that define her, she still finds a way to make us feel better even when she's not better in her own. She is the mother I and Sky always dream of having; she always has her own unique way of making us see the light at the end of tunnel.

I have my own share of the sexual assault it started when I was just eleven by one of the orphanage securities, he said he noticed me since I was eight and since then he had been dreaming about this day, the day he was going to have me under him while I scream and beg for his mercy and no one will come to save me from the monster which was him. It happened the second time on my thirteenth birthday by three jocks in school, they claimed they were giving me the best gift I could ever ask for and get in all my life. I was assaulted lastly by a group of drunk men last year on my way to the orphanage because I missed the bus back home and I had to walk home all by myself, it was the worst experience ever because even after they were done, I still had to walk back to the orphanage in pains and blood.

Our last name is Bright till after we are out of the system that's another disadvantage of been in the system, maybe that's why the bullying in school is much because it's obvious we are the weed amongst them. I and my friends are all passionate about our future and that's why we want to attend college to accomplish our dreams. I want to be a Designer because it will grant me the access to travel the world and make cool clothes for kids like me, Oceania wants to be a lawyer she says she wants to right the wrongs did towards us by the system, so other kids won't go through what we went through. Sky wants to be a model because he is a camera lover, we had to get a polaroid camera so we take pictures of him and he likes talking about himself. We all have ambitions although it might be hard to accomplish but we are ready to face any hardship that comes our way because we know the way to success isn't an easy path.

The ring from the alarm woke me up from my slumber we are starting our exams by next week, I and my friends are almost prepared for it we read daily and I can say we have almost covered the entire syllabus. I stood up from my bed to wake the others because we had to get to the bathroom first to avoid the bathroom rush. The orphanage provide us with just five bathrooms and three toilets for each gender on each floor, a floor has eight room with three kids per room and the dormitory has four floors, that's one of the things also share and during school days it's always difficult to share because we have over fifteen girls on our floor and if you luck isn't on your side for that day May and her friends will be in the bathroom before your turn and let me tell you, it's never a good day for anyone because they can spend over an hour in there singing and talking to each other leaving two bathrooms for the others to use so most times we get to school late or we don't bath at all.
