I read the address of the real estate agency, from the paper, but he didn't understand. He snatched the paper from my hand, looked at it and with his mouthful, smiled at me again while emitting some sounds in Romanian. Now he understood.
We took our trolley bags with us and entered the agency. A woman of about thirty, or thirty-two at the most, welcomed us with a smile. "How was your trip?" she asked. I understood she must be Dorina.
"Thank you, everything was fine," I replied and immediately introduced myself and Fabrizio to her.
"Would you like a cup of coffee?" she asked."Don't worry, I have good coffee," she quickly added when we declined the offer.
After a bit of small talk, Dorina asked;"What is your budget? And what exactly are you looking for?"
"I don't have a huge budget," I explained. "I am looking to purchase an apartment with two or three rooms in a good location."
"I have prepared a list of twenty apartments. How many do you want to see and when?" she asked.
"Let's start tomorrow morning. I'd like to see five of the best apartments," I answered.
Fabrizio interrupted and asked, "Do you know of any possibilities of renting a place to open a café or restaurant?"
"Sure, we have some places like that for rent, but you will have to have proper licenses."
"What price range are we talking about?" he asked.
"It all depends on the location, but we are talking in the range of approximately twenty to twenty-five dollars per square meter per month," she answered.
As we were leaving, I said, "Thank you Dorina, see you tomorrow at nine,"
We went out into the noisy street where there were plenty of taxis. I had barely lifted my hand and two taxis pulled up and the drivers began cursing each other as to who came first. We went into another taxi that stopped some distance away with a driver waiting patiently.
Angelo was at his restaurant when we arrived. He had known the date of our arrival but since he had nobody to replace him, he could not pick us up at the airport.
Angelo came alone in the evening and suggested that we go with him to a Chinese restaurant. On the way, we picked up Luciana, who was waiting for us on the street outside her home. She sat in the back next to Fabrizio and immediately clung to him. She seemed delighted and happy to see him.
"What would you like to eat?" the waiter asked.
I assigned the task of choosing our dishes to Angelo The portions began to arrive, and in no time the table was full of plates with rice, salads, pork ribs in honey, sweet and sour chicken wings, and strips of beef with green pepper.
"What have you decided regarding the purchase of an apartment?" Angelo asked.
"I have an appointment with a real estate agent tomorrow to see some apartments," I replied.
"If you turn left as soon as you go out of my apartment, you will pass the entrance to Cismigiu Park. If you then walk about one hundred meters on Brezoianu Street, you will see an amazingly beautiful three-story building with a For Sale sign out in the front. Either ring the bell or call the number indicated on the sign and you will save yourself five percent commission," Angelo told me.
"I will definitely go and see it. I will call Dorina and tell her that I will be a bit late for our appointment," I said.
