I could not believe what I was hearing. A few moments ago she chastised me for saying a word of affection to her, and now she invites me into her apartment? I quietly walked beside her, keeping my distance lest it be interpreted that I was trying to make a move on her.
We took the elevator to the fifth floor. I followed her to her apartment from where we were able to hear through the door yelps of happiness from a dog inside the apartment.
"Don't be scared, it's a good dog. He is rather big, but not at all dangerous." Indeed her golden retriever was pleasant and likeable. He jumped on me as if asking me to pet him.
Dorina poured some kind of a drink for us in small glasses. "It's called Ţuică, our national drink," she explained, and raised her glass. "Noroc,[Cheers in Romanian]"she said, and emptied it down her throat.
"Noroc," I reciprocated and emptied the strong drink down my throat. I felt a burning sensation in my chest and immediately the warming feeling began to spread throughout, eventually reaching my brain.
We went out to the balcony on the roof and looked down at the streets below us with all the flashing lights. The full moon was shining overhead, illuminating our surroundings. She poured another drink for both of us and sat down next to me on cushions scattered on a large wide wooden bench.
"If you are thinking of a romantic adventure, let me inform you up front, it's not me. I don't like sex and don't seek love. My marriage didn't last because I was looking for a friend for life, while he was looking for a woman to love and to love him. It didn't work.
"If you want to be a friend in that sense and not just in a business sense, I am open to you. I could tell you that I like you and am really fond of you. Therefore, let us continue and let's see where things will take us."
I was kind of shocked. I looked into her eyes, which portrayed certain sadness, but at the same time great wisdom and life experience despite her young age.
"Dorina," I said. "I like you and I want to be your friend, but nothing beyond that," I said. I bent over and gave her a kiss on the cheek. She smiled.
"It's time to leave now," I said. "I will go home, if I find the way, and tomorrow we will meet and discuss our new partnership."
"In my opinion the risk is low." He said, avoiding commenting on Angelo's opinion. "Let me try. Besides, you know that I want to be in Bucharest because of Luciana, and this option will give me the opportunity to stay here for long periods of time."
"Okay, if that's what you want, then in bocca al lupo.[ Italian: "Good luck" or "Break a leg" ]"
Fabrizio and I helped Vasili move the few items that he had in his old apartment to his new ground-floor apartment. He received the keys and a photocopy of the contract Dorina had prepared. She filled in all the details of the purchase and gave it to the owner's attorney to have it registered in the Land Registry under Vasili's name, as if Vasili had bought the apartment by himself.
Giorgina prepared the documents transferring ownership of the apartment on Cismigiu to me. I figured that the apartment cost me six thousand five hundred dollars, which included the two hundred and fifty dollars that I had paid my attorney.
Before it got dark I told Dorina to meet me at the entrance of Cismigiu Gardens. When she got out of the taxi I approached her and whispered into her ear, "I have a surprise for you. I am going to show you the new apartment I just purchased."
