"She was interested in you, but you didn't call her," she replied.
"It really makes no difference now," I answered. "For your information, things were not like that. When we parted, I asked her for her phone number and she gave me a blank piece of paper with nothing written on it."
"That's true," she answered. "However, later on she regretted it and tried to find a way of contacting you. She gave Luciana a number where she could be reached. She waited and waited, but you never called. When you came back to Romania she went to meet you, but you were already with somebody else."
"I was unaware of all this. I'm real sorry," I answered.
"She's still single," Silvia replied.
Suddenly Claudio interrupted, "So, what do we decide to do. We go back to Italy in four days."
Roxana looked at him with a sad face and said, "You're leaving me, again."
"Let's have coffee. I am dying for a good cup of coffee. Whoever wants coffee, raise your hand," said Gert as he got up to order.
Meanwhile Angelo and Fabrizio, who were walking around the mall, came and sat down at our table, next to each other. Fabrizio had a troubled look on his face. Angelo put his hand on Fabrizio's shoulder and said, "Everything will be fine. Look, I lost my car and I didn't sink into depression."Fabrizio nodded in agreement.
I realized he didn't want to talk in front of everybody. I guessed that it either had to do with the bar, or more trouble with Luciana.
"I don't think we should go too far. Perhaps we should go for a day or two to Costanza[Romanian town on the black sea]," I suggested.
"Not a bad idea," Silvia responded. Claudio and Roxana also reacted positively to the idea.
Finally everyone was there. I noticed that Silvia and Mirella came together and were whispering to each other the entire time. I was hoping that nothing would happen and that at the last minute Mirella wouldn't change her mind and decide not to come. I went over to them to greet them and we went down to the cars.
Elia, Gert and Claudio had come together with Angelo, as they were staying in his apartment. Fabrizio came with Luciana. Despite the strained relations between them, they were leaning closely into one another, as though deeply attached.
The trip to Costanza was short and went smoothly. After approximately two and a half hours of traveling we spotted the shores of this port city. The beaches at Costanza aren't the most beautiful, but if one continues a bit further towards the Bulgarian border, one can find sprawling white sandy beaches.
We passed resort towns with hotels and private beaches with names like Neptune, Jupiter, Venus, and Olympus. When those towns ended, the scenery was not as nice and the beaches were neglected, with wild weeds growing on them.
After driving for another hour we arrived at Vama Veche. The town was far from being a resort area and the hotels were far from being luxury hotels. The "hotel" we had reserved in was actually an apartment hotel, an old three-story building with four apartments on each floor. Everybody received a small apartment that consisted of a bedroom, private bathroom and a small kitchenette. The accommodations were not expensive.
It seems that the hotel was once a government office building that had fallen into disuse. The government then converted it into a cheap hotel for government employees. When not occupied by government employees it was rented to tourists or locals.
