Evan's P.O.V.

Mike came upstairs. Lilly and I were helping Annie with her stuff so I didn't pay attention to him right away.

"Annie, I found something downstairs," he said. "It's a letter from your mom."

"What does it say?" she asked.

I took the letter from Mike and opened it.

Annie,

I am leaving town. I am not telling anyone where I am going so don't bother looking for me. Hah, what am I doing writing you a letter? It's not like you can read it anyway. I hope your precious boyfriend takes good care of you because I am sick of everything. The house is rented so I suggest you go live somewhere else because I am not paying the rent anymore.

Goodbye

Your mother. The note said.

I felt sick to my stomach. This woman was a heartless psycho. She abandoned her only daughter after abusing her for years. If I ever see her I am going to choke the life out of her!

"What does the letter say?" Annie asked again.

"It's nothing," I said. I didn't know how she would react.

"EVAN! Just tell me," she walked forward and searched for me so I quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her close.

"Annie, I am sorry but she left," I whispered.

"What to do you mean?" she asked.

"She left town and she said she is not coming back. She left you for good," I told her. I didn't read the exact content of the letter as I didn't want to hurt her feelings.

"Oh I see," she said quietly.

"Why would she do such a thing!" Lily exclaimed.

"She never loved me. I could never make her love me, no matter how hard I tried. Am I that unlovable?" she said, choking back tears.

I crumpled up the note and threw it on the floor then quickly grabbed her. "She is a miserable bitch. It has nothing to do with you. You are perfect," I whispered into her hair.

"You are lying. I am worthless. I can't even see anything now or do anything on my own anymore. No wonder she hates me so much," she said and sobbed as I tightened my arms around her trembling body.

"Don't ever say stuff like that again, Annie! I don't know what the hell is happening with your mother but I know for sure it's not your fault," Mike said and placed his hand on her back.

NO! I didn't want to be a burden to her anymore. I may be young and helpless but I still had some pride left.

"No...Stacy, I don't want that. You've done enough for me! I don't want to bother you anymore, I can live in the foster home or..." I started to protest.

"How can you say that! You belong with me," Evan cried.

"Annie, you are not bothering us at all," Stacy said gently.

"I just...I can't do this anymore," I said.

"Well, do you have any relatives then? Someone I can call?" Stacy asked.

I thought hard. My mother hardly ever took me anywhere or talked to me about anyone who was related to us. It was as if she was ashamed of her own family. I remembered something all of a sudden. How could I forget about HER!

"There is one person you can call. I don't know if she would want me though," I said quietly.

"Who is it?" Stacy asked.

"My grandmother," I said.
