“Great!” Naomi wrapped her arms affectionately around Eli. “Then, what do you want to have for lunch?”

Naomi eventually took Eli to a fairly busy Western-style restaurant for lunch.

The place had a warm atmosphere, with wooden tables, yellowish pendant lights, and the aroma of grilled meat filling the room. Eli, who had barely eaten anything since morning, finally enjoyed her lunch more peacefully.

Every now and then, Naomi reminded her not to eat too quickly, making Eli simply chuckle and nod. For a while, there was no talk about David, Natalie, or what had happened the night before. Eli found it pleasant. She could sit with Naomi without having to think about anything other than the food in front of her.

After they finished eating, they immediately headed to Grace’s school. As soon as the car stopped in front of the gate, Naomi had just opened the door when a little girl came running out with a bright face.

However, Grace’s steps immediately stopped when she saw who was standing beside Naomi. Her eyes widened, and then her face lit up with joy. “Eli?”

Eli smiled broadly. “Hi, Grace.”

Grace immediately ran toward her. “When did you arrive? Why didn’t I know? Why didn’t you have breakfast with us this morning? Why didn’t you reply to my messages? I messaged you yesterday and even this morning!”

The questions came one after another until Eli did not have a chance to answer. She finally laughed softly as she held Grace by both shoulders. “Slow down. I only arrived last night.”

“Last night?” Grace immediately frowned. “But why didn’t you tell me?”

“I was too tired.”

“Then why didn’t you have breakfast with us this morning?” Grace demanded, dissatisfied with Eli’s answer.

“I woke up a little late.”

“Why?”

Eli was silent for a moment before giving an awkward smile. “Because I stayed up too late.”

Grace still looked dissatisfied. “Then why have you been replying to my messages so rarely?”

Eli let out a soft sigh.

The question made her feel a little embarrassed because she knew that lately, she had been ignoring the Miller family’s messages too much. She did not even realize how many messages Grace had already sent her.

“I’m sorry. I’ve been quite busy with college and campus activities lately. But it’s not because I don’t want to reply to your messages.”

Grace stared at her for a few seconds before finally nodding. “All right. But don’t do that again.”

Eli smiled. “Okay. I promise.”

Only then did Grace’s face brighten again. She casually took Eli’s hand as if there had never been any distance between them.

Naomi, watching them, simply chuckled. The girl always had her own way of making Eli feel like she was once again a part of this family.
