Lily’s phone calls and messages bombarded my phone. I didn’t answer. I was at home, packing my things.

I’d accumulated so much stuff. Since buying this place, I’d allowed myself to indulge. After all, I was planning to live here for a long time, maybe forever.

The keypad on the front door beeped frantically. Lily fumbled with the code, finally getting it right.

“Jason, the doctor said I’m not pregnant! What do I do? How could this happen?!” she cried, clutching the lab report.

Lily froze, the blood draining from her face.

“Are you doing this on purpose? Was the last test fake? I thought we were okay again! Why are you doing this to me?”

She ripped the report to shreds. “You’ve been lying to me! You pretended to forgive me, acted like everything was back to normal, just to… to…”

“Jason, when I was talking about our future, what were you thinking? How could you be so cruel?” She looked at me, tears streaming down her face, shattered.
