Four Hours Ago
The conference room at Rossi Group’s main office was unusually full. All executive board members had shown up, along with several senior advisors and legal observers. A few assistants lingered near the glass doors, passing notes and refilling drinks. The tension was already palpable before the meeting began.
Ian Morcant stood near the head of the table, flipping through his notes. His posture was composed. The large display screen behind him showed market updates and an agenda titled: “Governance Structure Review – Voting Transition Discussion.”
That was the official name. Everyone else knew what this meeting was really about: Liam Horvath.
Then the door opened without warning. Liam stepped inside.
Conversations paused. All eyes turned.
He didn’t hesitate. He walked directly to the table, passed by the surprised faces, and sat down in the only empty seat—directly across from Ian. His expression was neutral. Unbothered.
“Apologies for the delay,” Liam said. “I was informed there was a board meeting. As a voting rights holder, I assumed I should be here.”
For a moment, no one spoke.
Then chaos broke out.
Victor Jin stood up, half out of his chair. “You don’t belong here! These are internal discussions. Legal transitions!”
Linda Keating threw up a hand. “Wait—he has voting rights, doesn’t he? Isabella signed them over. It’s legally binding.”
“Binding or not, this is inappropriate,” said Marla DuPont. “There was no confirmation. We weren’t notified!”
“He’s here now,” said Leo Marchenko, quietly from the far end. “So maybe we deal with it.”
“I will not deal with this like it’s normal,” Marla DuPont snapped. “He walks in here and pretends like this is some damn charity board?”
“I’m not pretending anything,” Liam said. He leaned back slightly. “But if you’re reviewing corporate governance, you might want the person who holds ten percent of the vote in the room.”
“You’re not part of the family line!” Victor said, voice raised.
“I wasn’t aware that was a requirement,” Liam replied. “Isabella wasn’t challenged on that basis when she took the seat.”
Ian held up a hand. “Enough.”
The room quieted only slightly.
Ian glanced at his assistant, who typed something rapidly into a tablet.
“We can verify his documentation after the session,” Ian said. “But for now, let’s proceed.”
Frank Dorsey made a noise of disbelief. “So we’re just letting anyone with a pen and a signature sit at this table now? The company is losing millions and you—”
“Technically,” Leo muttered. “That’s what all of us did when we signed the original charter.”
The arguments resumed. Some board members shouted over each other. Others demanded immediate verification. Two legal aides stood awkwardly at the wall, unsure if they were supposed to step in.
Liam remained seated. Calm. Hands folded.
Ian finally slammed a folder shut. “We’re going into a closed session.”
That silenced the room.
He looked at Liam. “Mr. Horvath. If you insist on staying, you stay under full record. No side meetings. No observers.”
Liam nodded. “Understood.”
Ian gave a curt nod to the assistant.
“Lock the doors.”
