The visitation room was plain, silent except for the occasional shuffle of movement from guards outside. Izzy stepped through the heavy door, a folder clutched tightly under her arm. She moved to the center of the room, her eyes fixed on the man already seated behind the glass.

Ian.

His wrists were cuffed, chained to the table. His hair was shorter now. A fresh scar cut through his left eyebrow. But the look in his eyes hadn’t changed.

Izzy sat down.

“You won’t get anything from me,” Ian said first.

She set the folder down but didn’t open it. “I don’t need anything from you.”

He leaned back. “Then why are you here?”

“To tell you it’s over,” she replied. “I know everything.” Izzy came here to say this. Obviously, this isn’t true. The game isn’t over yet. The trap has been laid out, now she just needed to follow the script.

Ian narrowed his eyes. “Everything?”

“Yes,” she nodded. “However, we were not able to find Mr. De Luca. At least not yet.”

As Ian said nothing, Izzy kept her eyes on him. In her mind, she walked through every step they had taken. The only way to reveal the person targeting her was to ruin their plan from the inside out. That meant handing everything over to Liam. Playing into their expectations. Becoming predictable.

She made Liam the villain. Publicly. She gave him her shares. She allowed the media to spin it. She allowed the board to whisper. And she waited.

It was a gamble. But it was necessary.

Now, she had the largest share. If Liam obtained one more board member’s trust, he would have the leverage to acquire Rossi Group and integrate it into Horvath Industries.

Someone would try to stop them. That was the plan.

She smiled faintly at Ian. “But what I still don’t understand… is why you acted like you wanted to save me.”

“I did,” Ian said.

“Why?” she asked.

“Because I’m meant to protect you.”

Izzy raised a brow. “Protect?”

Ian didn’t blink. “Yes.”

“How is that protecting me?” she asked. “You and Mr. De Luca… you’ve been doing this behind my back. You’ve been targeting me.”

“We didn’t want you inside Rossi Group for a reason,” Ian said. “But you won’t ever know it.”

Izzy tilted her head. “Are you sure about that?”

Ian’s eyes darkened. He looked away, then turned to the guards. “I’m done.”

The guard opened the door. Ian stood up and walked out without a word.

Izzy didn’t stop him.

She stayed in her seat, eyes fixed on the door he exited through. Her thoughts settled on the reason she came.

It wasn’t to confront. It was to measure.

And she got what she came for.

De Luca wanted control. That much was clear. But strangely, they didn’t want her near Rossi Group. Not even close.
