“That... that’s against hospital policy,” the lawyer stammered.

Marcus Lynch’s temper flared. “To hell with hospital policy! Go find the doctor—now!”

They arrived at the hospital.

Marcus wasted no time tracking down the attending physician.

“Isn’t there anything you can do to bring my father back?” he demanded, barely containing his frustration.

The doctor glanced at Marcus, clearly on edge. “I’m sorry, sir, but your father’s condition is—”

“I don’t care!” Marcus snapped, his jaw clenched. “I don’t care what it takes. Just wake him up!”

Only if the old man woke up could the will be rewritten—putting everything in Marcus’s hands.

Suddenly, a cold laugh echoed through the hallway. “What’s the matter, Marcus? Didn’t manage to finish the job the first time, so you’re trying again?” Tyrone Lynch strode over, Alicia Shelton at his side.

Once the hospital had declared Maddox Lynch’s condition critical, everyone had been notified. Tyrone and Alicia had come, and so had Easton Lynch.

Easton leaned against the wall, his face grim as he stared at Marcus. There was no saving him—not anymore. Their father had bailed Marcus out of jail, afraid he’d die behind bars, but even that hadn’t changed him. Greed had rotted him through.

“Tyrone!” Marcus glared at him, but his anger was tinged with fear; he didn’t dare push further.

“The old man’s going to change his will,” Marcus sneered, desperate. “He’s leaving Lynch Corporation’s shares to my son, and all the money and property to me. You’re out, Tyrone! Not a single cent for you. You’ll never claw your way back!” He turned on the doctor again, voice trembling with fury. “Wake him up—do it now!”

He seized the doctor by the coat. “Use adrenaline or something. Hurry!”

“I’m sorry, but that would only make things worse,” the doctor replied, voice shaking. “He’s far too weak for any intervention now.”

Reginald sighed heavily, nodding. They were all getting old—how many years could any of them have left?

Marcus was still barking orders at the hospital staff. “You heard me! Do whatever it takes—just wake him up!” But the hospital had its own rules, and nobody was paying him any mind.

Suddenly, a nurse rushed out, breathless. “Mr. Lynch is awake!”

Alicia turned to Tyrone, worry creasing her brow. “Your grandfather’s awake. He’ll want to change the will for sure…”

Tyrone gave a mirthless laugh and shook his head. “Let him.”

Reginald tried to urge him along. “Tyrone, aren’t you going in to see him one last time?” He made a move toward the room, surprised when Tyrone stayed seated.

Tyrone’s voice was low and steady. “I don’t think he wants to see me.”

He stayed where he was. Whatever father and son bond they’d once shared had been exhausted the day Marcus tried to kill the old man.
