Easton Lynch was living on the tightest of budgets. Although Lynch Corporation was now under his name, he hadn’t yet stepped into true power—his age and unfinished degree kept him sidelined, and dividends only came at the end of the year. As for a salary, Easton wasn’t drawing one at all.

Not that it bothered him much. Easton had grown up scraping by and had long since gotten used to hardship—a fact everyone else seemed to ignore. They assumed that once he got a taste of luxury, he’d turn greedy in an instant.

At least he had a place to stay. The company put him up at one of their hotels, and for the first time in his life, he was living in comfort.

He lounged on the couch with a slice of watermelon, gazing out the floor-to-ceiling windows. He still couldn’t wrap his mind around the fact that he was living in the penthouse suite of Seaview City’s most exclusive hotel.

Once, he’d been just a boy from a tiny fishing village—no parents doting on him, just the burden of having to support his family from the moment he could walk. Now, out of nowhere, he’d become the heir to the Lynch Corporation, sitting higher than he ever dreamed possible.

When he took over Lynch Corporation, he hadn’t felt undeserving of the role. What troubled him was whether his presence had taken away something that should have belonged to his brother, Tyrone.

Everyone around him was betting on the same thing: that Easton would eventually fall for the temptations of wealth and power, that he’d go head-to-head with Tyrone for the family fortune. But Easton wanted none of that—what he longed for most was a sense of family.

The people at the top couldn’t understand that. To them, family was the cheapest currency of all.

“Easton, where are you staying these days?” Natalia’s call came out of the blue. “Come out with us tonight! I’m at Nocturne with a few friends. I can swing by and pick you up.”

He was about to say no, but Natalia pressed on before he could answer. “You should meet some people in the city—everyone I’m with tonight is from Seaview’s old-money crowd. After you graduate, you’ll be running Lynch Corporation. You need to get to know the right circles. Tyrone’s got plenty of friends in this world, and you’ll need them too.”

Her words sounded so sincere, as if she truly had his best interests at heart.

Easton thought for a moment, then agreed. “Alright. Just send me the address. I’ll get there myself.”

He was curious, after all, to see what Natalia was planning next.
